My freshman year at Baylor I was MISERABLE because i went from avg 30ppg in high school to playing 5 minutes a game at Baylor. My mom took upon herself to go talk to Coach Mulkey behind my back... lol here’s how that went.

Doubling down on this. When hiring assistance and interns, I never looked for qualifications. I always looked to see. Did they have the “it factor”. were they good people, were they kind. that is what matters. I would rather have a blank slate with respect to education, and somebody who is a good person send a technician who is not relatable.

Random thoughts after finishing up coaching on the floor with these middle school and high school athletes. The sets reps and percentages is the easiest part of coaching. Anybody can learn it it does not take long. What makes coaching special is being able to connect with the athletes you get to work with. Find ways to connect so they want to train so they have better intent. Find ways to help them with their nutrition. Connect to unlock the secret sauce.

@Coach_Alejo DIII they cannot in the off season. NCAA violation. Different challenges require different solutions. Coach engagement is the biggest piece on our end. Culture & Environment are a close 2nd.

@ESmith52 Much like AT undergrad was, it should run parallel from the start of their education.

"It's the human condition to be average. It's normal. It's special to get somebody that wants to be the best they can be and understand how important it is to earn it." Average is easy. But true success isn't found in comfort. Be relentless and leave your mark on greatness.

Coaching is a profession, not a hobby. One day, it will be treated as such, and coaches will stop being taken advantage of.

Spoke to an Athletic Director friend today. His school is cutting his coaching stipends in half. Just paying Head Coaches, no assts. Making him fundraise for the rest. He has to tell coaches. He asked for advice. I said "Go to EdJoin.org, and look for a new job!"

I don’t think there is a coincidence between the domination of Salisbury in D3 sports and @CoachNein and that strength department! D3 strength and conditioning is becoming an X factor against those who don’t

@johndelf99 Thanks for the kind words. S&C plays a large role in athlete development and its focus at the DIII level is growing, however it still has a very long way to grow. We still have institutions who do not employ S&C Coaches and have weekend certifieds running training sessions.

I literally don’t understand how American football coaches are not required to get continuing education units like S&C coaches are. Anyone want to explain this to me? People like @ADRCoachDev MAKE FOOTBALL 🏈 SAFER! Make his teaching and his colleagues work REQUIREMENTS to work in football. @WeAreAFCA where you at?
Andrew Ryland@ADRCoachDev

Out “hold up” drill Over/under hooks. Simple goal, jack up their posture (amount dependent on skill/ability), make it messy and reshape to power and find a good tackle. Release earlier for learning/younger, release late for more developed players.
