The last time the USA bombed a country back to the ‘Stone Age’ was North Korea in the 1950-53 Korean War. 85% of all buildings were destroyed &18 of the 22 major cities saw 50% destruction. Around 12 to 20% of population was killed. This trauma led to the North Korea of today.

Terrifying reality check. Al Jazeera confirms the US and Israel have bombed over 760 schools and 350 health centers in Iran. They are intentionally obliterating mental health hospitals and residential markets. The scale of these war crimes is absolutely sickening.

But here's what's finally moving the needle: Gas prices. It turns out the red line for MAGA is $8 a gallon going into the 250th birthday of America. Nobody wants to grill hot dogs and explain to their kids why it costs $120 to fill the tank. The approval ratings are going into the gutter. And he doesn't care. That's the part that should terrify everyone.

If choking off global supply chains, firing military generals, causing millions of people to be displaced, thousands of deaths to innocent civilians, losing access to the Straight of Hormuz, putting the petrodollar in jeopardy, causing insecurity to the gulf states, and increasing the price of fertiliser, oil and gas is “winning”…god only knows what “losing” looks like.

The US is probably a more restrictive society than Iran's. Iranian women are among the best educated in the world and often speak multiple languages and have read extensively. He's met Iranians with impressive whiskey collections. And is it really a mark of a great society that alcohol is widely produced? Western countries see a dramatic increase of alcohol related emergencies every weekend. Iran had a very long tradition in wine making and it's one of the oldest civilizations to do so. Yes, it's mostly illegal since 1979, but the US had its own flirtation with prohibition not so long ago. Meanwhile US society is so ruined when it comes to upward social mobility, the circumstances needed to have healthy childhoods and strong family ties and other opportunities that millions turn to a wide variety of illegal chemical substances to numb the existential angst and pain. Poetry features heavily in Iranian culture, even in every day life. I've been told that Iranians will sometimes make the last word of a sentence randomly rhyme. Someone will say deracht meracht for example, with deracht meaning tree and meracht added randomly. Many Iranians can recite poetry and philosophy. Americans will invoke the constitution without ever having read the document. And if you want to find crazy religious fanatics you'll find some of the worst one running the US army. Real nutters who believe Jews must go to Israel so Jesus can return to earth setting off an apocalypse. Given that Israel is arguably the country most likely to use nuclear weapons they may get their wish minus the Jesus doing a comeback bit. Fun note, Farsi has two words for a fart, one for a loud one and one for a silent one, choz and guz, which are also insults. You guess which one someone like Trump is, a loud one or a quiet one. Certainly one who created an embarassing stink for himself when he primitively thought killing the guy who put a ban Iran developping nuclear weapons was the cool thing to do.
