@FloridaMan7745 Yes and also no, because "American Protestant circles" can mean basically anything. It's like saying "the Eastern Orthodox."

Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson is clearly the smartest justice with the deepest understanding of what the judiciary actually is in 2026

@JPF16C @shipwreckedcrew All I see is a justice, 100x more effectively than the other ones, dominating the conversation, voting for their causes, not getting caught up making sure their opinion today at least pretends to align with some obscure precedent from 1831. That concept died 100 years ago.

I think apologetics fails most egregiously when it stops being a defense and starts being a way to convince people “That’s not true and here’s why” vs “here’s a rational explanation for how the universe could only be 6k years old” You’re supposed to take the resurrection on faith
wanye@xwanyex

This is what I mean when I say that a lot of Christian apologetics are embarrassingly bad. “The resurrection must be true, because the apostles were willing to die for it and nobody dies for a lie” is an argument that’s beneath thinking people.

@FrailSkeleton The colors were introduced because default yellow was seen as "implied white" by the committee of retards that governs emojis.

Psychologically analyzing my colleagues by their thumb’s up emoji use. Black people always turn it brown, some of the ethnics use brown but some use the extra pale one. All the regular white Americans use default yellow

@MorlockP Sure, but as demonstrated by this whole affair, not only is the US number so high as to apparently cripple any other military attempting to match it, we also haven't actually seen the number at which the US is willing to abandon someone. Europe sets their number at two planes.

Do other cultures not play Capture the Flag as children? At least to me, there’s something primal about going into the other team’s base, taking something of value, and bringing it back to ours.

During the Easter Offensive, a USAF pilot was shot down over North Vietnam in a densely patrolled area with 30,000 PAVN soldiers. Americans used his photographic memory of golf courses to guide him past minefields over open radio until he could be rescued by Navy SEALs.

I saw The Passion in theaters in Lent 2004. I was a Catholic seminarian. A local Baptist pastor offered his bus to drive a group of us to see it. It had only been out a few days. It’s an amazing film and the take below — specifically in regard to its violence — is frankly just really weird to me. Of course it’s violent. It’s probably much less violent than the reality.
Laura Robinson@LauraRbnsn

I saw this movie wildly late in life for someone raised evangelical (my parents were NOT happy at the fact that youth group kids were watching it). So I saw it in my late 20s for a class with @IanNelsonMills and my husband. It remains one of the strangest film experiences of my

My weird suggestion: Warlocks shouldn't have spell slots. Instead, they should bargain with their patron for each and every spell. When that spell is cast, it's gone forever until they can "reload" it from their patron. Example: Warlock "I want the Finger of Death!" Dark Mistress "You must cut off one finger joint and give it to me." Next time he wants Finger of Death, it's another finger joint unless he can talk Dark Mistress into something different. Weaker spells would require weaker sacrifices.
