As part of my fire safety discussion with asylum seekers in the @regionofpeel, we conducted a fire drill and developed escape plans. To better understand the differences between homes in Africa and Canada, we discussed the importance of being aware of carbon monoxide and its effects. Many newcomers had never encountered Smoke and CO alarms before, so we provided hands-on training on how to handle and maintain them. We demonstrated how to remove the alarms from the ceiling, check for dust, perform tests, and replace batteries to ensure their proper functioning. The message was simple: #savedbythebeep @ONFireMarshal. To emphasize the importance of fire prevention, we emphasized the concept of "Going Flameless." To support this idea, we distributed LED candles generously provided by @FMPFSC. By opting for these safer alternatives, we can reduce the risk of fire incidents. This ethnic fire safety talk was aimed at empowering asylum seekers with essential knowledge and equipping them with necessary tools to stay safe in their new homes.
