Those quotes above (not you) are what folks that don’t understand the nuance of basketball, say. Or ESPN Talking Heads that are too lazy to actually watch enough games. But the nuance of it is… Brad is great at a lot of things and he’s bad at some very big things. (Why can’t we agree on this possibility. It’s rational.) His players got him here, which isn’t an insult, it’s what and how he designed it to be, whether he realizes it or not He has an offense that he didn’t “design”… b/c there is no “design”. He allows the players to go and play and find the weaknesses of the opposition. That IS our offense. Hurley doesn’t do that. He allows player freedom, but he also has plays and scripted sets and things that allow them to get open when getting open is difficult. It’s option 1 sometimes and option 2 at others. The nuance of this is that Brad will continue to be a great and successful coach at Illinois, because he’s a terrific recruiter and roster builder, and most other coaches now use that approach, only with less talent Hurley, on the other hand, will always be a top five coach, because he has talent and roster, and also has the aforementioned plan and structures. Brad will forever beat up on the other teams that don’t have those things, which is most teams. But if he never wins a national championship, this will be the reason why I love Brad. I love Illinois. I also understand and accept nuance. Our game plan could have won that game last night with a few luckier bounces for us and a few less for them That doesn’t mean our game plan for last night was good or optimal. It wasn’t. So we could’ve won. Brad WAS out-coached, but he was always going to be. Ball knowers know that. AND the players STILL could have overcome that and won. Brad‘s great at building. I don’t want him to stop. I would love it if his staff became better at the strategy of the game. Can’t that be the possibility, Drew? Or do we all have to go to our graves just saying that because we won some games, our coach coaches MUST be great coaches?

@JoelWashko @bearstakesnfl @Danostrat @BadCallOfficial Portions of every large fanbase cry about refs after every loss. You’re just in Illinois so it seems like more. College refs are bad and Illinois didn’t play above them yesterday. Very funny scrolling your TL all your CBB tweets are shitting on IL. Take a breath

@bearstakesnfl @Danostrat @BadCallOfficial I have a hard time getting on board with any theory that involves officials conspiring to screw the Illini. Which is exactly what many of their fans on here claim. All the matters at the end of the day at this level is who wins and who loses. Not interested in excuses.

That’s A Bad Call

This was not called a foul on UConn when Wagler was on the ground. This was called a foul on Illinois on Karaban’s shot. There’s only incidental contact at most that doesn’t impact the shot. That’s a bad call.

Dan Hurley (UConn) has really out coached Brad Underwood (Illinois) today. UConn running off ball double screens, multiple passes, in and out sets, etc Meanwhile Illinois just handing it to Wagler or Stojakovic and iso-ing all game. Easy to guard and predictable offense.

The reason Illinois struggled making shots is because their offensive coordinator didn’t run any action to ensure high-percentage looks. ISO into a waiting defense or flat-footed threes without any action isn’t the move. But that’s fine. A F4 is a F4. Learn from it. Adapt.
Fam(ILL)yguy@Slimelifeeee

@CollegeHoopsTIk The reason we lost is because we couldn't hit a shot. Not because Brad got out coached.

Illinois’ +63 in the second half is the fourth-highest point differential in the history of the NCAA tournament.

@FilletMillen @neonkeoncoleman Literally do these guys watch our games. Our offense is so pathetic because we only have 1 shooter on the court at all times 😭

I hate Illinois way more than any other program, and because Ben and I are basically the same age, he does too. There is never going to be a bigger game than this for our generation. You wouldn’t understand if you didn’t live it. fuck Deon Thomas, fuck 80K and a blazer.

@GXIImalux12 @ali_mohamed77 @nonewthing You can when the 3 better strikers than you at the club are constantly injured. I give Saka grace because he’s been good outside of end product which we know he has. Gyokeres first season at a top club being at 27 should tell you all you need to know. Sell.

@FilletMillen @ali_mohamed77 @nonewthing Can't be a top scorer by default, he gets into the right areas, nobody should be given grace because of their past endeavors, same way Martinelli gets stick, so should Saka Its even worse when you consider that this is Gyoks first season at a top club, Saka should lead by example

People expect the coach or individual players to do something when they are being led by the worst CF in the league upfront. Arsenal would have easily won this game with a fit Merino or Havertz at 9. Unfortunately, they signed Gyokeres.

@GXIImalux12 @ali_mohamed77 @nonewthing This is a “down year” for Saka playing with a terrible striker who doesn’t do literally anything to help anyone on the pitch on his team besides waddle around at the top of the press

@GXIImalux12 @ali_mohamed77 @nonewthing He’s our top scorer by default not by any accomplishment of his own. Saka has been poor this year by his standards I agree but still has strong underlying numbers. It’s not favoritism to back players who have proven they can be elite at this level over bad ones
