@groenevis @keysmashbandit for the majority of human history, sheep and other animal wool was used waaaaaaay more than cotton to make clothes, especially cheap clothes. america is kinda weird in how heavily they relied on cotton in the early days.

The thing I feel most cognitively dissonant about when thinking about history is how much time everyone spent being physically uncomfortable. Heavy itchy wool, greasy hair, too cold or hot. If I try to imagine myself doing daily life circa 1704 I get immediately blocked by that

@Ge0lo @JackedTechBro If there’s absolutely one line that you DONT want to skip, it’s a security check-in line at an airport. You have people already on edge, trying to get to family, work, vacation, home and everything in-between. It’ll be a declaration of war 😂🤣😂

@TerribleMaps That dark spot in Ohio is the Linndale speed trap, right? It's unreal how a village with under 200 people catches tens of thousands on I-71 honestly on a level that's not even funny anymore

@destiny_thememe apple breeding is a ruthless arms race fueled by farmers' mutual hatred for growing the honeycrisp and desire to grow an apple that is more desireable to consumers

The true story behind this is even more sickening: the dogs were kidnapped from their owners homes and loaded up into a truck going to an (illegal) meat shop, these dogs fell out of the truck during transport, managed to navigate back home. China is such a hellhole its unreal.
Dexerto@Dexerto

Seven dogs stolen from their owners have gone viral after escaping their captors and making their way home The group is believed to have travelled around 17 km together led by a corgi across highways and fields

@JoeforHouston The only spring break video I saw from Houston was a bunch of black people soliciting a 7-11. Really inspirational travel destination.

"Houston has stumbled into something real: Young people are increasingly choosing Houston as a place to celebrate, party and spend money. That’s not something the city should dismiss or panic about." If we invest in transit and mobility, this could be the start of a new Houston!
Shea Jordan Smith@shea_jordan

Cities spend decades (and millions) trying to attract the kind of energy Houston had for Spring Break. In my first @HoustonChron op-ed: I question whether we’re going to get serious about infrastructure, transit, and public safety—or keep getting surprised.

@bookofflesh @vers_laLune Yes there are methods to memorize and read shit faster. Like using flashcards instead of passively recopying notes. Or first skimming the reading before reading again so you know where to pay attention.

@keysmashbandit If you set your default browser to automatically switch to "web" you remove the ai results. But in this case the definition widget is still gone.

"Define "word"" used to give you all definitions of a word. Now it gives you a 5 paragraph small model AI overview for a meaning of the word you didn't even want, and no alternative definitions. That was my most used Google search feature.

@Ge0lo @jakonrath 1. Don’t use cheap “flash” models or built-in editing AI. 2. You have a choice which edits to apply.

I'm a fiction writer. Here's how editing works. If you are under contract with a publishing house, their editor will mark up your manuscript for you to review. For each individual edit you can accept it, question it, or reject it with "stet". If you self-publish and use an editor, it should work the same way. The editor suggests things, you accept them or ask for clarity or stet them. If you self-publish and use AI to edit, AI will rewrite you depending on your prompt. If you cut and paste AI's corrections into your story, that is AI writing. If you use AI to generate words--any words--you are not writing. You are prompting. I don't recommend doing this. Writers write. Being edited doesn't absolve you of any responsibility for your work.
