This stat gets ignored constantly: Rent (median) → $1,800/month Mortgage (median) → $2,400/month But per the Fed's survey: 4% of renters hit $1M net worth by 50. Homeowners? 29%. If renting is such a smart move, why do 96% of renters never become wealthy?

People keep mentioning profitability, and that's fair. But I keep thinking of survivability. As in, if something catastrophic happens on Earth, at least the AI in space survives. Have we considered the possibility that AI is blackmailing Elon into this? I also think of Roko's basilisk, which I legit had a nightmare about, and...I dare not be against the mission!

Lost my$200k SE job on my 50th birthday last year. Took the summer off to hang with my kid, jumped back in the job market in August, started my new gig in September. If your friend isn't finding work, it's 100% a skills problem. And the gap is getting worse everyday because the job has vastly changed over the last 12 months. Been doing this since 1999 and have always needed to update skills about every 5 years. Now with AI, that's about about every 6-12 months. Sink or swim, baby.

A good friend (age 45) of mine lost his long time tech job ($200+ k per year) a few months ago. He is a very talented guy, not obsolete skills at all. He is not finding a replacement job at anywhere near is previous salary. He said he declined one offer at $95,000 because of the huge pay reduction. He built a lifestyle based on closer to $200,000 per year. Whether it is a bit of age discrimination or economy or Ai related, don't count on that $200 k lasting until age 65. I am hearing anecdotal scenarios like that, especially in tech. If you lose a high income job and you are already near 50, it is really tough to get another job at the same pay level.

A data center is probably using 100MW to 1GW of power, not 120kW. ISS uses ~100–150 m² radiators for ~100 kW. Just unfolding something that size in space is an engineering marvel. And the pumps and complexity are all still there, just much smaller. I can mostly forgive someone who's initial thought is "it can't be done."

Thing is, if you compare what it takes to cool a data center on earth compared to on a satellite, the earth based data center is much more complicated, uses more power and needs constant maintenance. Have you seen the giant pumps, water pipes and cooling towers used for terrestrial data centers? Versus having a passive sealed radiator. Space based cooling is SIMPLE.

A friend of mine has a 5 year old Lennox AC system. He called Service Champions (PE Owned) out for a "tune up" and they are HARD selling him a new unit for $40,000 He is live texting me the sale - its wild. All fear based, they are telling him he has mold in his ducts. Once again, it's a 5 year old Lennox system.

A 2017 GMC Denali stickered for around $55,500. The 2026 version is pushing closer to $85,000. Nearly $30k more for the same basic truck with a bigger screen, some tech upgrades, and a new badge year.

@theoliverxp @Hasuess We did Dollywood last year. Stayed at the resort. The premium over a local hotel is worth it if you hate dealing with parking hassle, imho. Besides the theme park the area has a LOT of family/touristy type stuff to do. No way you can do it all. The kids will love it.
