@CtrlAltDwayne Companies need to start making a worse-for-sales EU-only model that only gets upgraded every 4 years to combat this.

Europe makes a lot of stupid decisions, but the USB-C and now replaceable battery regulations are actually a good idea. You shouldn't have to pry open adhesive on your phone and worry about breaking glass to replace a battery. Nokia got this right 26 years ago.
Omne Europa@neolatyno

🇪🇺| Europe will require all mobile phones to be sold with user-replaceable and longer-lasting batteries starting 2027. The regulation demands the availability of spare parts and manuals for 10 years to curb planned obsolescence. As per the USB-C ruling, Europe is a giant that can change markets to put European consumers’ needs first.

We inherited an agreement where FIFA is providing $0 for transportation to the World Cup. And while NJ TRANSIT is stuck with a $48 million bill to safely get fans to and from games, FIFA is making $11 billion. I’m not going to stick New Jersey commuters with that tab for years to come. FIFA should pay for the rides. But if they don’t – I’m not going to let New Jersey get taken for one.

A few weeks ago, the Mayor of NYC announced a $38 million plan to replace the heat pumps at a local housing development. $38M for 712 units means they are spending $53k per unit. (!) How is this possible...? This math does not make sense.

@persianjewess Why do you need to give grants and pick the winners? Why do people insist on going into grocery stores when they deliver to SNAP and EBT customers for less than $5 a month?

Mamdani is spending $70 Million to create just 5 city-run grocery stores. One Harlem location is projected to cost $30 Million. Instead he could have funded grants and credits for existing bodegas and small grocers so they decrease their prices and stock healthier goods. But why help millions of New Yorkers with plans that make sense when you can open 5 socialist grocery stores that will likely benefit no one?

Mamdani bloviates about his plan to build a $30 million, city-owned grocery store in Harlem next year while a heckler shouts through his speech: “New York City, it is time for a grand experiment once again…we will use government to respond to rising prices and unaffordable groceries.” The Harlem grocery store would be the first of 5 such taxpayer-funded stores. “I almost fell back when I saw the $30 million number,” Anthony Pena, president of the National Supermarket Association, told the NYP. “Even a high end, gourmet store in the middle of Manhattan wouldn’t cost that much to build.” The former owner of New York’s 17-store Morton Williams grocery chain, Avi Kaner, said “$30 million is an awful lot to spend to build one supermarket.” Kaner and Pena agreed that a typical, 15,000-square-foot store without elevators or escalators costs less than $10 million to build. New Yorkers are about to learn the price of socialism.

But you didn’t deliver the product you said you were going to deliver seven months ago, and then told people to code it themselves even though the WiFi model was marketed as having all the same features as the LTE during preorders. The community gave you millions of dollars to fund your BEE build at zero interest so you could get VC money. And when the community called you out about the bugs and not delivering on promises, you shut the Discord down because how dare they.

@aseidman @Hivemapper You got the feedback. You said you heard it loud and clear, and then you didn’t deliver. You ghosted the community, told people to basically learn to code if they want features, and have now shut down feedback you don’t like.

I love feedback. The feedback that we get the most value out of is the Community Testing Program where feedback is thoughtful and clear. If people want to talk amongst themselves about stuff that is awesome and I am happy that the community built friendships, but that is not directly helpful to the community and its products.

Wow, @aseidman seems to have had the @Hivemapper Discord shut down. All general discussion channels are now a general announcement platform. It’s a shame because many of the update channels had not been updated in over a year prior to this. Ariel doesn’t like the feedback he’s been getting regarding the poor performance of the Bee units and that the WiFi Bee units didn’t come with the same features as the LTE units as advertised. IMO, the team has been ghosting the community again, just like last year. It’s a shame because the community wholeheartedly supported this project until the promises of the Bee fell through and the poor device performance became an issue, where people turned units off and stopped building organic fleets. Now the team seems desperate, giving away cameras, which is a poke in the eye to long-term community members that bought multiple units. I hope the team can fix the unit performance and deliver on their promises. He posted this in September on Discord and has not delivered.

@aseidman @GoJohnnyE @Hivemapper I get priorities shift and there’s a lot going on behind the scenes. From the outside though, its hard to tell what ‘productive’ means now. The roadmap was much clearer 6 months ago. It would be great to understand where things stand and where they’re headed.

The only thing you need to know about the situation regarding Iran is that the United States has never, since the Barbary Wars over 200 years ago, accepted that a foreign potentate would be able to control freedom of the seas and demand tribute. It's the reason we built a Navy.

@DeantheCanuck @Nessakins_ Canadians can't get a person to orbit by themselves. You traded building a robot arm for seats on two Artemis flights. Do you think the USA can't build a robot arm? That is the only thing related to space Canada can build.
