In his first speech as Tamil Nadu chief minister, Vijay said that he grew up in poverty, and that he even knows what hunger is. It's bullshit because he was my classmate in the third standard in Loyola School.
His father was a filmmaker who set up his son for a career in films.
It is possible that like most filmmakers his father may have had periods of financial strife but that's not the same as Tamil-grade poverty. A lot of affluent boys confuse being broke with poverty. Two very different things.

We went to buy a new family car today.
Just requested the showroom to deliver it before 17 May because Malmas starts after that.
And the salesman literally mocked us for following our traditions.
He said: You people are educated yet still believe in these things? Thousands buy cars during Malmas too.
Imagine insulting a customer just because he respects his culture.
My father stayed calm and said: Being modern does not mean abandoning traditions.
But the salesman kept arguing.
So we cancelled the booking right there and took our money back.
India is becoming so modern that now people feel ashamed of their own culture, festivals and beliefs.
Respecting traditions is now called backwardness.
This mentality is more dangerous than illiteracy.

Totally support PM @narendramodi's austerity talk. Here is what the govt can do:
1. Trim the convoy: Scale down massive VIP motorcades. Fewer gas-guzzling SUVs on the road directly saves fuel, cuts emissions, and reduces public traffic jams.
2. Limit VVIP travel: No non-essential domestic or international trips. Prioritise virtual summits and video conferences over heavy-budget physical travel delegations.
3. Stop the off-duty fuel perks: Enforce strict logging of government-issued vehicles to ensure they are strictly used for official duty, no personal weekend family trips on taxpayer-funded fuel.
4. Digitise and save paper: Mandate a 100% transition to digital file-sharing across secretariats. Cut down the massive budgets spent on physical paperwork, luxury printing, and high-end official diaries.
5. Keep office upgrades on hold: Freeze all non-essential renovations of government offices, bungalows, and VVIP lounges for the next 12 months.
The economic pressure from the West Asia conflict is real, and conserving forex is a national duty. Let austerity be a two-way street.

😳These secrets, like which area the by pass or Industrial estates or other kinds of development projects are coming up are Known only to those involved in planning or execution of such projects, including political executives, bureaucracy, etc. and they take advantage of this. This is not true of Madhya Pradesh only, but happens quite often in other states also.

In the coming years, I think we will see "Kudankulam protests 2." Most likely starting from TN. That time it was against Russian built reactors.
This time it will be against India's new Fast Breeder reactors, already existing reactors, or their expansion to help power India.
If so, we will see fishermen with flags and coastal community protesting in water and the state's CM, whoever it is, going to give them political support.
Former PM MMS ji called the 2011 Kudankulam protests against the Russian reactors as a work of foreign hands. More specifically he stated in a magazine interview, and I remember clearly reading:
"The protests were done by orgs in India who were funded by NGOs, from the US and Scandinavia, who do not like India to be energy independent."
He was referring to the then Deep State. The DS now has evolved. And is influenced more by another actor. Still India faces the same DS threat.
So remember PM MMS's statement if you see protests erupt. Do not fall for propaganda that "PM Modi sold something to some corporate" or "Govt is doing something nasty to the environment."
Or any of their nuclear doom & gloom propaganda that's sure to precede any organized protests.
They said the same last time about a different govt. And India faces similar deep state adversaries who will try to disrupt its energy independence and growth. Let's not become their easy prey and pawns in sabotaging ourselves.

PM Modi said people to do work from home, stop buying gold, stop going on foreign vacations, cut fuel uses, all this to stop rupees from falling.
An open letter.
Work from home - Modi ji you're in power, you've to make law otherwise companies HR, real estate Mafia will not agree for WFH
Stop buying gold - Modi ji, please guarantee that central banks won't buy gold either otherwise gold price will keep going up and common public will have to buy at higher prices later.
Stop going on foreign vacation: Modi ji, I hope you're aware of our public infra, we don't even have clean public toilets at most of the tourist places in India, there is a reason why people are forced to go out of country for vacation.
Cut the fuel uses: Modi ji, have you seen condition of public transport? Trains tickets are not available, metro last mile connectivity aren't there, no restriction on cabs surge pricing, you think people use private vehicles just for luxury? No, they're forced to do that.
Be it demonetization, Lockdown or Covid, everytime Govt is in trouble, you ask public to support and they do but what about Govt? People vote Govt so that they work peacefully, pay tax and Govt work for people not the other way around. You're in power for 12 years and that's a lot of time.
And how about reducing LTCG, STCG and STT to attract FII flow, that will also help rupees to get stronger, atleast you start first.

Was travelling to Mumbai from Pune. Could see a lot of overspending and indisciplined driving. Firstly at Urse toll post a White Fortuner with a “आमदार” sticker, kept on going zig-zag and changing lanes to get through fast. I saw the driver was alone in the car. He went through the gates, then again crossing lanes as if he was on a speed boat in the Sea. No HSRP, the only thing you could read was “100” on the registration plate, none of the alphabets could be read. At Kamshet he went into the fuel station. Again he overtook us in the first tunnel of the connecting link, definitely his speed was more that 120kmph. Continued lane cutting and all those stuff that needs to be fined, but b’coz of the sticker & #VVIP number no one stopped him.
My question: who will be held responsible for any event? How will you catch the violator? Why are these non HSRP vehicles allowed in the highway. They should be confiscated at the toll.
Regular speed camera monitoring is already in place, these violators need to be fined there and then it self.
What happened with @supriya_sule yesterday, was monitored and caught only b’coz they had a readable HSRP.
These roads are a death trap, for others when law makers use their clout like this in public highways.
@Dev_Fadnavis @CMOMaharashtra @Mumbai2PuneEway @DGPMaharashtra we the citizens who travel on this highway regularly and pay toll need discipline and action against these violating vehicles and their drivers, they act as if they are the rulers but in fact they should be bought to their rightful place.

I watched @narendramodi ji’s Hyderabad speech very carefully. His appeal for economic self-reliance, sustainable living, and reduced import dependency was much needed, and people listen to him. But his govt and the @BJP4India state govts should lead by example. Here are a few of my asks from the govts.
1) Shift to online inaugurations of ALL projects. No city needs a massive VIP entourage and 30 police cars blocking traffic every 15 days because a minister has to come to inaugurate a bridge/road/tunnel/hospital. This is also non-essential travel. VIP entourages are going out of hand and that’s a waste of public money.
2) Most politicians, from all parties, spend huge amounts of money on lavish weddings. There should be a ceiling on that first. At least here @BJP4India can take the lead.
3) Prioritising Made-in-India and locally manufactured products is a very necessary ask, but again, should be started from the top. What stops @BJP4India politicians from wearing a made-in-India watch, carrying a made-in-India phone, wearing made-in-India textiles?
People listen to you @narendramodi because you usually practise what you preach, but what about the rest of your govt and the state BJP govts? When will they walk the talk?

As a boy in the 1970s, I remember seeing abandoned overhead water tanks and the like in villages. Many are still there, slowly rotting away, even as new infrastructure gets built. Reason? There was no local involvement in the creation and maintenance of this infrastructure.
Today, we still see irrigation ponds being poorly unmaintained in villages. They used to be maintained at the village level (every village would have an irrigation committee and a head) and the state Public Works Department took them over (in the 1970s) and destroyed the existing local institutions. That is when they started to deteriorate.
Our Panchayati Raj reforms did not go all the way. We have to strengthen these institutions substantially at the panchayat, mandal (panchayat union) and district level.
In a similar way, Hindu temples, once they were taken over by the state government HR&CE, started to deteriorate. Today, in most cases, local devotees fund their upkeep or renovations, and the state HR&CE department works as a "write letters to local wealthy people to ask for help" agency (and that is the good part).
The only solution in every case is to hand control of these to local institutions.
We need to build real governance capacity at the village, town and district level. Just as lack of exercise destroys muscles, our governance capacity degrades when unused. That has bad consequences because when we neglect village/town level governance, we don't develop an organic talent pool of governance-capable people to draw upon at the state or central levels.
The IAS is administrative machinery, not an organic governance or policy making enabler. The machine needs capable drivers. It is that capability we must build organically.
Our districts are more populous than small nations like Estonia. Pondicherry and Goa, small states with about the same population or even less than that of Tenkasi, get far better focused governance, so we already have a model of this within our nation.
When we push responsibility down, local capability grows. This is the same principle behind scaling companies as well.
Unless we push governance responsibility down to the village and district level, we cannot truly unlock the capability and potential of our people.
I call this the District Driven Development model.
In my personal capacity, I have set myself the goal of contributing to the holistic development of at least one rural district in my life time, hopefully 3 or 4.
Bharat Mata ki Jai 🙏
