This was a vile terrorist attack that attacked Jews, because they are Jews. Antisemitism is a hatred that is rising, once again. Britain must defeat it, once again. To every Jewish person in this country: I promise that I will do everything in my power to guarantee you the security you deserve.

I am horrified and sickened beyond words by the news from Manchester. Members of the Jewish community attacked while going to synagogue to observe our holiest day, Yom Kippur. Two innocent people murdered simply for being Jewish. This is where the rising tide of antisemitism we have experienced leads. My heart goes out to all the victims and their loved ones. May their memory be a blessing. I am grateful to the emergency services for their prompt and decisive action. My highest priority is to make sure our community is safe. I’ve been engaging intensively with the Police, the Council, Central Government and the Mayor’s office today about the steps to protect and support our Jewish Community both locally and nationally. I welcome the deployment of additional resources and increased patrols. We must come together to confront the evil of antisemitism and defeat this vile hatred.

At a time of darkness, messages from those of all faiths and none provide that chink of light. Our communities stand together in the face of hate - that’s what makes Finchley and Golders Green and this country so special.

I spent today at my synagogue with my family observing the most solemn day in the Jewish calendar. News of the attacks in Manchester is heartbreaking. Please read my full statement.

I am horrified and appalled at the attack on worshippers at a synagogue in Manchester, on the holy day of Yom Kippur. My thoughts are with the victims and their families. I am speaking to local police about the safety of constituents and urge everyone to follow their advice.

We’ve got a world-class transport network, with the cheapest buses in the UK and services like the Night Tube, the Elizabeth Line and the Superloop. If you’re living in London today, the air you breathe is now dramatically cleaner than it was 10 years ago, thanks to our policies. London has welcomed millions around the world for a record-breaking summer of sport and music. Our economy continues to grow because we are an economic powerhouse. And so much more.       Over the last nine years, we’ve transformed the capital for the better. I'm optimistic about London’s future, and I'll continue to champion our city as a success story.
