@nealagarwal I wish you would have posted your certificates of being a human onchain, so they couldn't be digitally altered (photoshopped), and this would have been the best digital identify solution out there 😂 Could have done on @StabilityInc for free, no crypto or web3 shit required!

AI PROMPTING → AI VERIFYING AI prompting scales, because prompting is just typing. But AI verifying doesn’t scale, because verifying AI output involves much more than just typing. Sometimes you can verify by eye, which is why AI is great for frontend, images, and video. But for anything subtle, you need to read the code or text deeply — and that means knowing the topic well enough to correct the AI. Researchers are well aware of this, which is why there’s so much work on evals and hallucination. However, the concept of verification as the bottleneck for AI users is under-discussed. Yes, you can try formal verification, or critic models where one AI checks another, or other techniques. But to even be aware of the issue as a first class problem is half the battle. For users: AI verifying is as important as AI prompting.

.@balajis says AI is widening the verification gap. A massive number of jobs will be needed to close it. Prompting floods the world with fakes. Crypto brings back proof. “You're gonna need cryptographically hashed posts and crypto IDs ... to know the data wasn't tampered with.” In the AI era, trust has to be engineered.
Andrej Karpathy@karpathy

Good post from @balajis on the "verification gap". You could see it as there being two modes in creation. Borrowing GAN terminology: 1) generation and 2) discrimination. e.g. painting - you make a brush stroke (1) and then you look for a while to see if you improved the painting (2). these two stages are interspersed in pretty much all creative work. Second point. Discrimination can be computationally very hard. - images are by far the easiest. e.g. image generator teams can create giant grids of results to decide if one image is better than the other. thank you to the giant GPU in your brain built for processing images very fast. - text is much harder. it is skimmable, but you have to read, it is semantic, discrete and precise so you also have to reason (esp in e.g. code). - audio is maybe even harder still imo, because it force a time axis so it's not even skimmable. you're forced to spend serial compute and can't parallelize it at all. You could say that in coding LLMs have collapsed (1) to ~instant, but have done very little to address (2). A person still has to stare at the results and discriminate if they are good. This is my major criticism of LLM coding in that they casually spit out *way* too much code per query at arbitrary complexity, pretending there is no stage 2. Getting that much code is bad and scary. Instead, the LLM has to actively work with you to break down problems into little incremental steps, each more easily verifiable. It has to anticipate the computational work of (2) and reduce it as much as possible. It has to really care. This leads me to probably the biggest misunderstanding non-coders have about coding. They think that coding is about writing the code (1). It's not. It's about staring at the code (2). Loading it all into your working memory. Pacing back and forth. Thinking through all the edge cases. If you catch me at a random point while I'm "programming", I'm probably just staring at the screen and, if interrupted, really mad because it is so computationally strenuous. If we only get much faster 1, but we don't also reduce 2 (which is most of the time!), then clearly the overall speed of coding won't improve (see Amdahl's law).

‼️NEW WHITEPAPER The world is getting flooded with data. It's getting harder to verify what's real and what isn't. Information superabundance, accelerated by generative AI, is breaking society’s traditional framework of “Trust Infrastructure” - trust based on self-verification, authority, and reputation - which can no longer scale to verify truth, source, or integrity of such massive volumes of data. Proof Infrastructure offers a solution: a novel overlay of digital communications where all data is untampered and independently provable without relying on centralized platforms or intermediaries. @Obionecoinobi We have a short and medium term plan/strategy. It involves protocolization of our current products and other initiatives. And Web3 protocols need tokens. First out of the gate will be LINEA. Soon. More to come on this. And they will all be synergistic with one another.

Been saying this for years Web3 is tiny. Miniscule. Nobody seems to care as long as number go up We should be focused on expanding the pie. The world needs proof mechanism & verifiable data more than ever now Can't happen when users must jump through hoops to use the tech

Crypto marketing is broken. Those 400,000 testnet users you're bragging about? Probably closer to 20,000 actual humans. Maybe less. This isn't FUD. It's reality: We've analyzed 1.8 BILLION wallets...and the data tells a story that most founders don't want to hear. Your metrics are lying to you. Your VCs are chasing phantoms. And your marketing strategy is built on quicksand. Let me show you why. After 20 years in tech, I've seen how easy it is to be deceived by numbers. Crypto has taken this deception to a whole new level. When we first started clustering wallets to count actual users, our data scientists thought our algorithms were broken. The user counts were coming back at roughly 10% of what protocols were reporting. So we tested. And tested again. The conclusion was inescapable: most protocols have 20X more wallets than actual users. This isn't isolated. It's systemic: • Testnets where 200,000 "active wallets" are actually just a few thousand farmers running bots, to capture a larger share of the airdrop. • DeFi protocols with thousands of daily transactions but only hundreds of actual humans • NFT collections with 10,000 mints but only 1,200 unique collectors So why is this happening? After spending years analyzing crypto data, I've come to a disturbing realization: Many VCs are funding projects they know will never be profitable. Let that sink in. They're not investing in sustainable businesses. They're investing in exit opportunities. So many projects will never generate meaningful revenue that will cover the burn. I've seen the data. I've watched projects with fundamentally flawed unit economics raise round after round. I've tracked metrics that clearly show unsustainable user acquisition costs, nonexistent retention, and zero path to breaking even. Yet the money keeps flowing. And it's actively harmful to the entire crypto ecosystem. How can we achieve widespread adoption when we're building on fundamentally skewed foundations? How can we onboard the next billion users when most projects are designed to extract value, not create it? How can we expect institutional adoption when our metrics are fabricated and our economic models circular? The future of crypto doesn't belong to projects with the most wallets or the biggest airdrop farms. It belongs to projects that solve real problems for real people at scale. It belongs to founders who understand their actual users and build sustainable businesses around serving them. It belongs to a more honest, more effective approach to marketing in this space. If you're ready to face the hard truths about your project and build something that matters, with real metrics about adoption and user activity, we're here to help. Because the alternative is more of the same: keep pretending your phantom users are real, waste resources, and disappooint everyone. And frankly, crypto deserves better than that.

@jchervinsky This struggle is inherent to cryptocurrencies. Not open blockchain networks As soon as ppl realize this, the wild west of crypto can become the casinos, while serious business and solutions are built on blockchains without all that noise. That's the inevitable future I see

Working full-time in crypto is the struggle to keep in mind the obvious inevitability of an internet where people can own digital goods instead of renting them from centralized institutions, despite the constant distraction of the most ludicrous, unserious news events imaginable.

I like #Fantom 's focus on tx vol vs tx $ vol i.e., unlike Ontology's $4.5k requirement. It allows for TVL but doesn't require it, or necessarily reward it. AC's Rarity game is a great example of a kind of dApp that could benefit - it created massive tx vols wo tx $ vols or TVL.
