@thehowie You only need to present your passport or birth certificate when you REGISTER to vote - not every time you vote. If states didn’t allow non U.S. citizens to obtain drivers licenses then this wouldn’t be necessary.

The people who don’t understand this proposed “law” are either willfully ignorant or plain daft. IDs are fine. Demanding you have your birth certificate or passport in order to vote is an UNNECESSARY barrier.

@Acyn Why are Democrats so terrified of voter ID? You need an ID to board a plane, buy alcohol, rent a car, but not to vote? Every functioning democracy requires voter verification. Secure elections aren’t “suppression”, they’re common sense.

I haven't been following the story closely, but it seems positively absurd to me to require people to show passports or birth certificates with them in order to vote. A drivers license should be more than sufficient for this purpose.

@CoClarified @VATeacherLaura Agree! If you can figure out how to legally change your name, you can figure out how to get a new gov’t issued ID w/the new name. Changing my last name at the DMV was a lot easier than changing it w/my employer!

This is the real issue. Illegal aliens are outrageously counted in the Census for Congressional representation. Even though they can't legally vote - they give Democrats more power in Washington D.C. That's why there is so much resistance from the Left on deportations.
