@DifferentN56366 @donmcgowan I was dismantling the crap you were saying because it actually didn't make sense. Its you who started swearing mate. Clearly you have anger issues. Who on earth are you to undermine us anyway?

@HorNet_Group @donmcgowan I am angry and frustrated and if I may say so you seem a little less than cheerful yourself. Incidentally you were the first to resort to the ad hominem so spare me the Buddhist act. Its a precarious time and we clearly strongly disagree so lets just leave it there shall we.

Ah okay, so we need to be grateful that our situation has at the very least been acknowledged, is that what you are saying? Us plebs need to wait our turn? Why should we have to wait for the government to get its act together. Its because of people like you that politics is a joke and why people are so disillusioned by it. Wake up and live in the real world for once!

@HorNet_Group @donmcgowan Incidentally even an intent to recognise this is a damn sight more than the previous incumbents did. I am by no means a Kier Starmer fan. But given the alternatives are at best naive and at worst depressingly bleak. Im a little reticent to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

@DifferentN56366 @donmcgowan The world has been allowed dumpster fire for a long time now, that doesn't let this government of the hook to help working people like us. WE need to be the priority here, NOT billionaires and Lobbyists!

@HorNet_Group @donmcgowan No I am not saying that. Where did I say that? I get this is your whole crusade so you think this is going to get top billing but in case you haven't noticed the world is a fucking dumpster fire at the moment. So maybe there are a few things to sort out.

Housing associations are often the worst offenders of ruthless landlordism in stark contrast to their branding and ’charity’ status
orwellvalley@orwellvalley

Sometimes I wonder what a large housing association would be like if it were a person. The personality you see in the marketing is very clear. Smiling families. Big ceremonial keys handed over in photographs. Language about communities, opportunity and helping people onto the housing ladder. But the personality you encounter when serious financial issues arise feels very different. There isn’t much warmth or understanding in those moments. The tone is much closer to: this is the amount, this is the deadline, deal with it. Housing associations present themselves as organisations rooted in social purpose. Yet when leaseholders face major works bills or service charge pressures, the conversation rarely centres on affordability or the real financial position of the people involved. Instead everything is framed through process, liability and what the legal framework allows, and that gives them the necessary distance and disconnect they put between themselves and the leaseholders. It creates a strange dissonance. Go to court and notice that they won't even look you in the eye. The public image is one of support and opportunity, complete with photo opportunities and ceremonial keys. The lived experience, when things become difficult, can feel much more like dealing with a distant property manager whose main concern is protecting the balance sheet. Perhaps the most unsettling part is how normal this has become. An organisation can speak constantly about community and affordability, while the people actually living in those homes are left to navigate financial demands that bear little relation to what ordinary residents can realistically sustain. The photographs show people smiling with the keys to their new homes. What they rarely show is what happens years later when the bills arrive with an infeasibly crushing timeline for repayment. Threats of debt collection and lease forfeiture. Leasehold is a disproportionate liability passed onto the narrowest shoulders to maintain someone else’s asset - often used to excuse pre-existing problems, historic neglect, and avoidable structural failure.

Amazing, we know a few councils have opened a task and finish group for privately managed estates. All @RochdaleCouncil has done so far is refuse to engage in a meaningful way and pass a toothless motion. @npemmott @Rach31M @andykelly. Residents in Rochdale deserve more from our councillors! #StopTheRotAdoptTheLot
Rochdale Borough Council@RochdaleCouncil

The motion is asking for the council's O&S committee to set up a task and finish group, which would report back to the council in 12 months with recommendations to support the expansion of cooperative housing in Rochdale.

Ah but we are constantly told councils don't have money to help residents who are paying twice through estate fees and their ever increasing council tax. Can you see why our situation isn't sustainable @npemmott? For 3 months we have been waiting for a reply! #StopTheRotAdoptTheLot
Rochdale Borough Council@RochdaleCouncil

Coun Carol Wardle has introduced her report on finance and growth. It notes that more than £190m will be invested into capital schemes across the borough over this next financial year.

It should be noted that Cllr @andykelly has failed to engage with the fact that Rochdale Council is trapping its residents in fleecehold despite being copied in to emails and despite his own party having a stronger stance on this matter. Residents in Rochdale are tired of being taken for mugs! Perhaps it is time they turned to @WorkersPartyGB @rochdalegreens. We look forward to their Local policies being announced very soon. #StopTheRotAdoptTheLot!
Rochdale Borough Council@RochdaleCouncil

This next motion, is to be moved without debate, as is allowed in the rules. Moved by Coun Andy Kelly, it notes the importance of the ‘Ask for Angela’ scheme, where people who feel uneasy while out in licensed premises, can ‘Ask for Angela’ to get support from staff.

@DifferentN56366 @donmcgowan Well this government was all about CHANGE. So are you saying the policy works shouldn't change to help people like Dan? Also the PM said this issue needs to be looked at before election. Why is he silent now?

@HorNet_Group @donmcgowan Thats not really how policy works though is it. The point here is, it can be simultaneously true that -something needs to be done about situations like the one this gent is in and - not every problem will make its way up the priority ladder for the PM to personally manage

Do you also note that you are facilitating your residents being exploited by developers? @Rach31M @npemmott. Allowing residents to become trapped on privately managed estates is a policy choice. @mtpennycook. We are seeing councils adopting all over the UK. What is @RochdaleCouncil excuse? #StopTheRotAdoptTheLot!
Rochdale Borough Council@RochdaleCouncil

The councillors note that the cooperative housing model is underdeveloped in the UK as compared to other countries, even though it creates cohesive, community led housing schemes which tend to be more affordable than other housing options.

@HorNet_Group @donmcgowan No you wouldn't, but I guess thats because you're not the head of state of one of the largest economies in the world at a very febrile and precarious time in history.

Centrists claim to be doing a “new kind of politics” and promise to fix the housing crisis but assemble a commission full of self-serving property lobbyists, shutting out the people who actually live it. We’ve had enough of experts. They’re why we’re in this mess.
Ruth Davidson@RuthDavidsonPC

We need practical, workable solutions to the housing crisis. That's what the @Prosper_UK_ Commission on Housing - bringing together experts across the fields of homebuilding and public policy - will be looking to provide. Read more here 👇 cityam.com/britain-needs-…

For those in the replies saying that because Starmer is this guy's constituency MP, he should be interjecting … why? Do you go to your MP with building problems? I understand that this is a big issue, but how can any MP be expected to help in this situation? Genuine question. This is a consumer concern, isn't it? It's not about me defending Starmer. I just don't see what any MP would do in this situation. Are people struggling to complete a building project in Clacton, berating Farage because they’ve made a mistake?
