During the Q/A portion of Airbnb's earnings call @bchesky talked about expanding beyond their core offerings (homes for short-term stays). Here are some key themes for future development: 1. Reliability - This is key for competing more directly with hotels and opening up a whole new generation of travelers to Airbnb. 2. International - Airbnb has scale in the U.S. and top markets in Europe, but still under-penetrated in most countries around the world. Major areas of focus include Germany, Brazil, Japan & South Korea. 3. Long-term Stays - Pre-pandemic stays for a month+ were just 13%, now they are 18%. Flexibility in work is here to stay and should continue to drive significant new demand for short-term rentals over time. 4. Experiences - Currently on hold - People loved experiences (95% 5-star reviews vs 84% for stays). It's ready to scale and will be relaunched soon. 5. Guest/Host Services - Add an entire suite of products to offer to hosts (with partners?), figuring out paid placement (but not wanting it to favor professional PMs), offering additional services to guests (like a resort hotel). 6. AI - A “once-in-a-generation platform shift” What are they missing? Could a host market place be a boom for companies like @airdna @HostGPO @Guesty @EnsoConnect @WeAreIPRAC @theturnoapp, etc..?
