@agaltet @peeleraja Fans of Savarkar, sure, but not bigots. They were quite happy to perform a Na'at in front of Vajpayee, Advani et al in a public event (and Hridaynath has often called this Na'at as one of his favourite compositions). You, on the other hand, are a bigot. youtube.com/watch?v=bQQGbA…

@peeleraja Her family is is affiliated with the ideology. Lata Mangeshkar sang a song written by Veer Savarkar and it was composed by her brother Hridyanath Mangeshkar. Due to which he lost his job at the AIR. They are not oppertunists but PROUD SANGHIs.

I put Asha Bhosle in the same category as Sacha Baron Cohen, Jerry Seinfeld, Piyush Pandey, Enid Blyton, Rahul Dravid and JK Rowling. They are/were masters of their craft and I immensely enjoyed their works while their careers flourished. Later, they promoted some of the worst ideologies and bigoted ideas, and I feel less inclined to relive those moments today. The nostalgia is dead. I did not know much about Asha's own support of these divisive ideas till some people like this OP pointed it out after her death.

this one is mostly for the leftists who read arundhati roy for breakfast but then cry over her death at night

@Jatinunplugged If a DNR (or AMD) exists, that's simply not true. Have had enough experience with those (through family and friends) to know this.

@RusseGonzalez @wunderground My experience (anecdotal) is that tropical cyclones weaken around 20 to 30 mbar in a typical ERC, so I suspect that the peak pressure was in the 880-890 range (consistent with the JTWC's 160/890 estimate). My personal estimate is 165/886.

A few hours ago, the eye of Super Typhoon #Sinlaku passed over the island of Saipan (CNMI). A @wunderground PWS station on the island reported pressure data from the eye of the storm, with a minimum pressure of 917 mbar (bias-corrected) being reported at 1420Z!

@wunderground estimate of 917 mbar for the minimum reported pressure. The PWS did not encounter the centre of the storm, suggesting that the minimum pressure at the time was ~910 mbar (corresponding to ~130 kt winds), substantially deeper than the JTWC's estimate of 930 and JMA's 920!

@cricdrugs Considering what Ian Healy had (apocryphally) said about him, this is certainly a guessing game!

@pnamblat Suman Kalyanpur was quite prolific, she just is underrated to a great extent.

So, S Janaki, P Susheela are the prominent Playback singers who debuted in 50's still alive. and to some extent Suman Kalyanpur who wasn't that prolific, I think. Yesudas started early 60's.

The JTWC did override the 18z intensity estimate for Super Typhoon SINLAKU, upgrading it to 160 kt (185 mph) with a minimum central pressure of 890 mb. This makes Sinlaku the strongest super typhoon by wind speed since Bolaven 2023 (165 kt/190 mph), and the first to reach sub-900 mb since Bolaven as well.

@aparanjape @ashabhosle Asha went on to win the Filmfare for this, which she couldn't receive as she was busy with work at the time of the ceremony. Hence OP Nayyar (who had broken up with Asha acrimoniously some time before) received the award on her behalf. Per rumours he threw the award into the sea.

So many memorable songs by Asha Tai in Hindi and in Marathi... so many memories for generations, and for generations to come. Here's one of my all time favorites - 'Chain Se Humko Kabhi Aapne Jeene Na Diya' youtube.com/watch?v=QxHmaE… (Doordarshan Recording 1970s) @AshaBhosle 🙏

‘उरले उरात काही आवाज चांदण्यांचे’ सुरेश भटांचे हे शब्द ऐकले तेव्हा वाटलं होतं की चांदण्यांचा म्हणून काही आवाज असला तर तो आशाताईंचाच असेल. आज मात्र ‘आकाश तारकांचे उचलून रात्र गेली’ तरी आमच्या कानांत, मनात, उरात हा ‘आवाज चांदण्यांचा’ कायम राहील. #आशाभोसले #ashabhonsle

@himganj153 Very hard for me to choose a favourite (her Marathi repertoire, which IMO is her best, has too many gems), but this one certainly comes to mind. One of the great feminist anthems IMO. youtube.com/watch?v=l2AZLN…

Favourite Asha Bhosle song. The kind of effortless dexterity she displays in her frequent trills in this song transform a complex technical mastery into something bright and fun. RIP. youtube.com/watch?v=GUAqKe…

@bhogleharsha A few still left, like Usha Khanna, Pyarelal, Anandji, Usha Mangeshkar, etc. to be fair. But yes, end of an era.

First Lata Mangeshkar. Now Asha Bhosle. Different styles, both touched by greatness. So many great songs, for me Umrao Jaan was the cherry on the top. The last survivor of the great era of Rafi, Kishore, Mukesh, Manna Dey, Talat, Geeta Dutt, Lata and Asha is gone and while we use the expression loosely, it is really the end of an era.
