@HedgehogCabin Hi Pauly, sorry to bother you, I wondered if you know what this white slime trail could be please? My garden has a couple of hedgehogs I think (there’re always loads of fresh poohs in the morning), could this be to do with them do you think?

Give A Shit About Nature
Give A Shit About Nature@giveashitnature·
This isn't a horror movie set. It's a road in Denmark. The streetlights are red to save the bats. Bats can't see red light the way they see white or green light, so to them, it's essentially darkness. White streetlights are one of the leading causes of bat decline in urban areas. Light-shy species avoid lit areas entirely, cutting them off from feeding grounds and migration routes. Standard streetlights reduce bat activity by up to 90% in some species. Denmark figured out a fix. So did the Netherlands. When they installed red LED streetlights along roads near bat colonies, bat activity returned to normal levels almost immediately. The lights still work fine for humans. Drivers can see. Cyclists can navigate. The only thing that changed is that the bats got their night back. Do you want your city to do this?

This was a very enjoyable read. Big admirer of Monty Don's style. For about five or six years, I emailed him once or twice a year to see if I could interview him about his sense of dress, but never with success. To me, he's a great example of developing personal style.

@itsalawyerslife @NECircuitleader My MP, Chris Bloore, said last night that although he abstained, he would probably support the reforms. He made out that all the barristers just want to preserve their own jobs, that’s why they’re against it. So incredibly depressing.

An eloquent King’s Counsel in full, passionate flow is a thing of beauty. Following on from Geoffrey Cox KC’s barnstorming speech, here’s @NECircuitleader telling the Labour minister that reducing jury trials is not the answer to dealing with the backlog of cases.

Sinusitis involves inflammation of the sinus lining, leading to impaired drainage and mucus retention. When the nasal cavity is affected, this is called rhinosinusitis. Symptoms include facial pain, blocked nose, facial congestion and headache. While most cases are viral and self-limiting, those with chronic symptoms or associated infection may require transnasal suction under endoscopic guidance for more instant relief 👃👇

This is a Long Eared Hedgehog, a native of Iraq. This dear brave little girl self admitted into the grounds of a charity animal hospital in Iraq, managing to evade many hungry homeless wandering dogs. As you can see, compared to our European hedgehogs they are much more delicate, and lighter in colour. Those huge ears contain a network of blood vessels which dilate in high temperatures, allowing blood to cool down as it passes through the thin skin before circulating back into the body. This incredible design helps regulate the hedgehog's body temperature, preventing overheating in soaring desert temperatures. The wonderful and valiant charity is War Paws, who care for and treat the forgotten animals of war. I've been advising the lovely Louise at @WarPawsIraq, and other animal charities in war-torn countries, for a few years now, and profoundly admire their extraordinary courage and commitment. They desperately need to build a new shelter for the hundreds of animals they save, and who have been dumped, so if you'd like to help a little, here's the donation link: t.co/zBkG24gA98

@leith1076 @BlondeHistorian BT constantly spouts how it supports disabled employees, yet routinely fails to make reasonable workspace adjustments, asks if employees are ‘still dyslexic’ and can’t even evacuate wheelchair users in fire drills.

@KieraDiss @LeilaniDowding Parking on paths is caused by decades of terrible building laws imposed by numerous governments and the fact that people are owning more cars. A family of 4 (2 adults and 2 adult kids) could easily have four cars. In a space that been built when one car was the norm.

PARKING INSANITY IN BIRMINGHAM Days after a Labour MP posted a video highlighting the utter lawlessness of Birmingham drivers with them double parking and parking on paths, a fire engine was filmed attempting to get through a road in the same area. They should be prosecuted.
Kiera Diss@KieraDiss

A Labour councillor has been attempting to fix the parking “crisis” they have in parts of Birmingham. Apparently, the laws don’t apply in some areas.

Health visitors in England have been cut by 40% since 2015. A&E admissions for under-ones have risen 42% in the same period. Since under local authority control, not the NHS, health visitors occupy an institutional no man's land. Read my article below: newstatesman.com/spotlight/heal…

🇬🇧 Royal Mail: Privatisation increased commercial pressure. Digitalisation reduced letter volumes. The combination has put the Universal Service under strain. 🇫🇷 La Poste, France: No dividend pressure from private shareholders bc state owned. Public service obligations are political priorities. Loss-making rural routes are tolerated. Diversified into: Banking (La Banque Postale). Insurance. Local public services. So letters don’t have to carry the whole financial burden. Political protection of rural delivery Rural presence is treated as: Social infrastructure. Territorial cohesion. Letter volumes are falling in France too. The system is explicitly treated as public infrastructure rather than purely commercial logistics.
