@BatesMoira @shivmalik They only paid it after a 6 month period of unemployment and then it was means tested so if your partner was in employment you could forget getting any help.

@shivmalik Yep. But that's not THEIR fault. The government & the banks took that away. (Oh. and if you became unemployed...the government paid the interest on your mortgage, too....& many had interest only mortgages - so no mortgage to pay at all)

Forget the Triple Lock. Wait until my generation find out about how boomers had their interest on their mortgages offset against any tax they paid. And the banks did it automatically.

Defined benefit public sector pensions are the British state’s second largest liability. They’re about £2.4 trillion - around 100 per cent of GDP. The old parties have ducked this for years. Most of the media won’t talk about it either. But Reform UK will not dodge this mammoth issue. Richard Tice has already announced that a Reform would close Local Government Pension Schemes to new entrants. And today Reform UK launched a review of whether new entrants for any defined benefit scheme should be permitted to such schemes. Reform UK have already announced £40bn of yearly savings. In the coming weeks, we’ll be saying more about the true cost of the Boriswave and unskilled migration we’ve had - and how Reform will stop it blowing a hole in the country’s finances. And we will commit to more savings in the coming months. It’s because we are the only the party with a plan to cut wasteful spending that we can credibly commit to keeping the triple lock. So, yes: we’ll balance the books. We just won’t do it on the backs of British people who’ve paid in their whole life. Instead, we’ll save tens of billions by resetting Government spending so it puts the British people – and only the British people – first.  Politics is about choices.  And we choose the British people. We will every time.

… they could have been forgiven for worrying about what was going on upstairs. Record losses (though still PSR-compliant), form drifting, £65m payments to agents, 2 senior players speaking out. A story of two halves, big hearts and big concerns. 2/2 #CFC open.substack.com/pub/henrywinte…

Forty Chelsea fans slept out at Stamford Bridge raising money for homeless charities. The club opened the East Stand, fans filed in, laid cardboard on the terrace floor, sleeping bags on top, and settled back for some chat, some sleep and a night under the stars… 1/2 #CFC

Manager not blameless, but I’ve said it numerous times and will continue to do so in that these players need to take some responsibility. Losing ACD and then CBT has shifted all momentum. Biggest issue was not addressing the defence in the summer. #bwfc

Decisions, decisions. Amad Diallo was a penalty. That gets given as a free-kick anywhere else on the pitch. It’s even more a penalty than the Matheus Cunha penalty (which was a pen, however “soft”). Amad was just less theatrical. Penalty not given. Wrong decision. Harry Maguire was a penalty and red card. DOGSO. Penalty and red card given. Correct decision.  Understandable debate over the decisions and inevitable frustration for Manchester United. But United have benefited from decisions that go their way this season. All clubs have these issues, examples, frustrations. The main issue here is … 1) General standard of officiating in the Premier League. Amad decision was poor. Even more investment required in grass-roots refereeing, in fast-tracking talent, in training up academy graduates who don’t make it as pros, and in continued work to improve further the Select Group refs. PL has some good officials. Just need more. 2) Football belongs to fans, not officials. Fans deserve to know what is going on in real time. When decision/incident being discussed by officials, audio should be played live. The authorities don’t want to, feel it places too much pressure on officials so content themselves with brief explanation when announcing decision and clarification on PL Match Centre. Fans in the stadium and tuning in pay a lot for tickets and subscriptions, respectively, and shouldn’t be kept in the dark. Audio works well in rugby union and cricket (and acknowledging those sports have more pauses in play). l went to a VAR demonstration (not PL) earlier this week given by an elite official. Hearing the audio between officials gave insight into the process - and respect for what they are dealing with at speed, especially with players trying to con them.  You are never going to get complete consistency over decisions. There’s always going to be an element of subjectivity with so many incidents. But fans deserve more transparency and accountability. It might restore some trust. #BOUMUN

@bwfc00078 The problem is at the other end of the pitch. Don’t score = no chance of winning. We are in the top six for the least amount of goals conceded.

Anyone who thinks that defence is fine needs their head checking. Absolutely abysmal. Eoin Toal and George Johnstone have got to be the weakest pair of centre halves in the league. Useless. Christie’s legs have gone. Retire. And Conway can’t defend. #bwfc

Every season we have one of the worst keepers in the league. It’s the difference every game. Teams like Rotherham, burton and Northampton have miles better keepers than us. Needs to be our priority next season. #bwfc

Our pilot of new incentives to remove failed asylum seeking families will save taxpayers up to £20 million. Here's why 👇 1. It costs 158k to put up a family of 3 in an asylum hotel for 1 year. It costs 48k more to forcibly remove someone. A 10k per person incentive, up to a max of 40k per family, will save money. 2. If someone refuses an incentive, we will move to a forced removal. If you have no right to be in this country, you should not be allowed to stay. 3. There is nothing new about incentive payments. The Tories did it. Even Reform say they will do it. 4. Higher incentives have worked in Denmark. 95% of returns there are voluntary. 5. These incentives are not a pull factor. Asylum claims in Denmark are at a 40-year low. And asylum seekers spend tens of thousands of pounds getting to this country, that's more than any incentive payment. 6. This is a pilot of 150 families. We will see if it works and scale it if it does. That's taking a smart approach, that saves taxpayers' money, to restoring order at our borders. I make no apology for doing that.

Seen about 3 cars in the last couple of days in the left hand lane at a roundabout go all the way round and exit right! I'd be really interested in finding out what they think the fucking right hand lane is for.............
