@MatthewBockholt A: my hope is that in a future where everything is fake , authenticity will be like a desert island. I am happy to be a cast away B: legislate and label but that won’t happen C: functionally useless but ethical nonetheless

Thank you for trying! Seriously. You're the first. I think you're missing the deeper points, but it's a start. A: Mad, sad, whatever, you can't blame anyone if there's no discernable difference. Even you will, eventually (as implied in your answer to B), be incapable of discernment. What if you find yourself being moved and inspired by images which you later discover to be AI generated? What then? B: If this is a problem, and if it matters, what can we do about it? C: If your definition of slop is "not real", but you can't tell the difference, your definition is, I'm sorry to say, functionally useless.

I'm not trying to be mean here, only realistic. A: if there's no discernible difference between real photos and AI ones, then how can you be mad at the viewers? B: if there's no way to tell the difference, then how do we know you won't start posting AI images yourself? C: if there's no discernable difference, either they're both slop, or they're not. 🤷‍♂️
Carl Bovis@CarlBovisNature

Soon you will not know what is AI and what is real...we photographers will struggle to compete with fake images created with a click on a computer.😕 I still believe the vast majority of people prefer genuine nature to AI slop... do you? Follow me to guarantee REAL BIRDS!😀🐦

@MatthewBockholt A: I am not mad at them - I feel sorry for them if they can't tell the difference between reality vs artifice. B: You soon won't know for sure. And that the problem - we won't know what's real any more. That matters. C: They are slop if they aren't real, howerver good they get.

You tell me I'm unable to have a debate while refusing to engage with a single one of my points? Go ahead. Pick A, B, or C. Respond to it directly instead of changing the subject or moving the goal post like you did when I said "functionally equal to anything Carl does" but you switched to medical imaging, as if pretty bird pictures and medical imaging are at all the same.

@JustinFAnderson You replied to me. On my post. Without addressing any of my points. Now you're quoting me for "being rude". While still not responding to any of my points. 🤦‍♂️

No need to be rude. Not sure you responded to my points either. Whilst I’m excited by a future where AI cures cancer or stops road accidents as a professional creative I’m less excited about my work being ‘scraped’ and the end of my industry whilst tech ‘bros’ get even richer.
Matthew Bockholt@MatthewBockholt

@JustinFAnderson @CarlBovisNature A lot of people responding. None of them responding to me. You all repeat the same phrases and points—as if parroting what you heard someone else say—none of which address my questions. Like a bunch of mindless robots. 🤷‍♂️

@MatthewBockholt @CarlBovisNature The problem is that one is real and the other isn’t. On a world where declining nature connection is fueling a mental / physical health crisis and environmental decline, it’s important that the wildlife we encounter is real. Otherwise we are just living in a fake digital matrix.

🚨 It's official! Swift nesting bricks have passed the Scottish Parliament and will now become law. Swifts are in serious decline across the UK. This will help reverse that trend and make our communities more liveable for birds. @markruskell and @WriterHannahBT explain 👇

Imagine swifts asking you to help them instead of me. They would if they could. Email me at thefeatherspeech@gmail.com for a template to send to 4 people who may block swift bricks coming into law in Scotland. You don’t need to be based in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿. 🎥 by wildaboutimages

Today I discovered there is a bird known as Standard-Winged Nightjar. The male has wing ornaments called "standards" that grow out of the middle of its wings during mating season.

Into the 4th year of swift brick campaigning. Sigh. No I don’t have a team & no I’m not funded. The Scottish swift brick campaign is a real chance but I need your help. Email me at thefeatherspeech@gmail.com for an easy template - will take two mins.

@WriterHannahBT Couldn’t agree more Hannah. There is seldom just one factor threatening any endangered species. Every year swifts die from injuries trying to access blocked nest sites - giving them better nesting options means they have one less challenge to face.

Other EU countries have levels of nesting protection that we don’t… Gibraltar has stabilised their swifts with swift bricks and it’s not like the insect situation is better there … even if there were insects galore, if they cannot breed they cannot exist in Britain.

I get this view ALLLLLL the time. It’s such an arrogant take on restoring swift populations. The point is they need both food and nesting habitat and one political campaign cannot seek both those very different aims. Here’s a 🧵to explain.

It’s far below what is necessary to equate to every house actually having a swift brick in it. There is: no legal requirement, no enforcement, no transparency, no monitoring. And do the housebuilders take up guidance?

No backwards steps for nature! We can't build homes or infrastructure because Tory cuts bled our planning system dry. Putting our Habitats Regulations through a shredder isn't the answer. I've tabled a Parliamentary Motion asking the Government to rethink its plans.

Wildlife is at risk. Habitats disappearing. Species declining. Ancient Woodlands threatened. This is the result of political choices over decades. It's time to bin off spurious anti-nature narratives peddled by terminally online lobbyists.

The RSPB invited the British public to vote on this year’s Bird of the Year. Guess which bird won with 81% of the vote? A bird who needs the prize to be swift bricks! Oh yes, the swift won. Email your MP now about swifts. We need to pull together for Britain’s most popular bird
