Africa should not depend on distant refineries for what it consumes daily.
That model is fragile.
Local capacity is the shift.

From what Apostle said, something that touched my heart most is this: some people think the church should be pushed out of the city, somewhere far away, where no one hears it.
But that “noise” you complain about? You have no idea how it has brought hope to the hopeless, stopped suicides, rescued drug addicts and alcoholics, and saved lives.
The church does far more than meets the eye. It deserves respect. And yes, it deserves to be right in the city, close to the people who need it most.
While many fight against it, it gets far less credit than it deserves. Many youth would have ended up as thugs, but Phaneroo Ministries International is helping shape lives, instilling discipline, teaching values, and even guiding parenting where it’s needed.
That impact cannot be ignored.

@pwatchug Let us make a functional national telecome company, instead of being middle men revenue collectors. If UTL was making 800B in profits, that tax would even be 0.1 but you leave all the money after income tax to go back to these countries where mtn and airtel originate from!

MTN Uganda said it was not asking Parliament to scrap the tax on mobile money withdrawals entirely, but instead urged a reduction to 0.25 per cent and a cap of Shs5,000 per transaction.
Dennis Kakonge told Parliament’s Finance Committee that a lower rate would still allow government to raise revenue while encouraging higher transaction volumes, which he argued would make the tax more sustainable for both users and the market.

MTN Uganda and Airtel Uganda asked government to reduce the tax levy on mobile money withdrawals from 0.5 per cent to 0.25 per cent, and to cap the charge at Shs5,000. The proposal was presented by Airtel Uganda Managing Director Soumendra Sahu and MTN Uganda General Manager for Corporate Services Dennis Kakonge during their appearance before Parliament’s Finance Committee, where they submitted views on the tax bills linked to funding the 2026/27 national budget. 📸 Courtesy photo

@GovUganda I hope the act is clear on who has powers to determine what should be built where as per the municipal development plan. We have had cases where ministry of justice has made letters in form of legal advise. Very painful country!

The National Building Review Board (NBRB) has put the public on notice as the new stringent law on building starts to take effect. The Building Control (Amendment) Act, 2026, which has already received presidential assent and been gazetted, spells out tough penalties for non-compliance and grants the NBRB, an agency under the Ministry of Works and Transport, new powers.
