What is the Electoral College all about? Why can’t every American vote for a presidential candidate and the one with most votes wins?

OLYMPICS UPDATE THREAD - DAY TEN We're on the third leg of the triathlon mixed relay - GB and Germany in the lead. France were involved in a bike crash on leg one and are a long way back.

Who is the most famous person who was a pupil at your school?

@thosethatcan Not quite a holiday, but I travelled to Scotland from London for a wedding, being Scottish a always wear a kilt for weddings. I packed: jacket, waistcoat, shirt, tie, sporan, socks, shoes, kiltpin, sgian dubh. I did not pack: my kilt 🤦‍♂️

What’s the best holiday packing faux pas your or your loved ones have made? Reminded of when our then 6yo packed her favourite rocks from the driveway and brought them to France, but neglected to bring any pants.

@HFWJDW @Adam_SH69 That’s simplistic. I work in Dubai but wouldn’t call myself an immigrant. I have no right to stay unless I have a job. A child born there they would not become emirati. My children could live here for the next 18 years and still have no right to stay. That’s not immigration.

Can somebody please tell me the difference between an immigrant and an expat? I'm a bit fed up with British people who have been living here in the Algarve for the last 20 years. Still calling themselves Expats.

The British public are badly wrong here. E.G. A week trip to the British seaside is not a ‘staycation’ it’s a holiday and always has been. Staycation is about staying put at home.

@_MissieBee 2 year old had a meltdown because granny and granddad wouldn’t let him ride his bike inside their house. 3 year old starting sobbing because he wants to go “to the Uk”. We’ve been in the Uk for 3 weeks but no amount of explaining will make him accept that. 🤦‍♂️

@Positivteacha Comments like this are what drives young boys towards people like Andrew Tate. Telling them that masculinity is in and of itself a bad thing. There are lots of fantastic masculine role models. The demonising of men as a whole is not helpful.

@missradders @rlrossi64 The way it’s worded. When you’ve sold it for 7k then bought back for 9k, the instinct is to think you lose 2k at that point and therefore only make 1k overall.

She's literally never had a proper job. Two years in the local council, then worked at her mother's charity. Then an MP.

@hiltonholloway @GustavPaulUK @francessmith I was just going off your definition. I have been a teacher for 18 years. I neither save lives nor put myself at risk. Is it a proper job? Curious as to what is. Do we not need people that work for the council?

@Mr_B_Morgan For me it’s about engagement. I’ve seen an outstanding teacher keep a reception class on the carpet for nearly 20 minutes. Every child engaged, talking with partner, using whiteboard. I’ve also seen children switch off after 2 minutes of a 5 minute session. I know which I prefer.

Carpet sessions: How long should a 5 year old sit on the carpet for during a lesson? And is there any evidence to support timings? We don't tend to sit for long during Reception lessons, but is that good practice or should children sit for longer?
