@sejhudson @packetsniffer99 taxing people to start investing is literally the reason no british retail investor invests lmfao.

Sure and I understand that more than anything else it's annoying to have to factor another thing in to the tax return. A lot of people here are clearly very familiar with investing but don't quite get how cash-heavy the median British retail investor is in their portfolio. It's a big problem and this does something to fix it.

@darioperkins Sounds like extremely short term thinking from the consumer. We’ve had AC since 2000 😬 in London

Why dont we have aircon in the UK? Is it to save the planet? No. Its because it only gets seriously for like a few days and by the time you decide you want to buy it, the temperature has plummeted and we are back to the usual shit weather. So you dont bother...

@BMJYorston Because the public and government dont engage on policies on the basis of their merit, otherwise the country wouldn’t be in this mess. it’s all short term soundbites and strawmans.

@Manisnoobs Totally fine with people hating the policies, but it's frustrating when people engage with strawmans

- Daily Mail, The Sun, The Telegraph, VICE in bio - doesn't even attempt to engage with why there might need to be tax on CASH held within STOCKS AND SHARES ISAs (It's to avoid a loophole where people circumvent the £12000 Cash ISA limit)
Rebecca Tidy@DrRebeccaTidy

It's a real shame that Labour has introduced a 22% tax on interest from stocks & shares ISAs from April 2027. It's yet another policy that discourages saving money & planning for the future. They're prioritising economic growth over individual wellbeing.

@Dykeocletian London, were able to grow through stupid UK policies. Also because services are less sensitive to stuff like high energy prices and high taxes on employment. Whereas the rest of the UK isn't

@Dykeocletian plenty of other countries don't have 1 city making up majority of its economic activity. It's not london "hoovering" up investment away from rest of UK, that's such a rent-seeking no-growth mindset adopted from UK being stagnant for 20 years. it's that the network effects of 1/

The rest of the UK is economically stagnant *because* London has hoovered up so much investment and opportunity over the past few decades. You can't turn around and blame us for the consequences of London-centric policy. Most of that "productivity" is in the square mile anyway.

@TomWright165389 @Worldchampsx2 Every part of the uk apart from London is a net taker and they want to continue 😂 with burnham it seems like he’ll make that stupid idea into law

@TypeForVictory I think HMRC and the gov are stupid enough that if you buy an overnight money market etf share, their system won’t recognise that as cash interest and you may get away with it tbh.

@Frencheconomics You can be sure it'll depress confidence and suppress investment though during the period! Yearly ritual at this point.

So with the tax on interest in S&S ISAs, seems like they're not taxing shares. Can you not just own a Money market ETF share and be exempt from this dumb tax? lmao

As a little example of how bad this policy is. Governments had to consistently act to reduce climate impacts when climate change was signed into law in the UK, and now you've got Ed Milliband's energy policy which makes UK's electricity one of the most expensive in the world.

@nickycash @RealTimVine Clearly you can’t read as any look at PM approval ratings put him deeply double digit negative. Plus he’s done a lot to piss people off; tried to cut benefits (lol its needed still), raised NI, contradicting his manifesto, introduced draconian surveillance laws, and much more.

I’m a bit out of the loop with the news. What exactly has Starmer done that he has to resign? It can’t just be because some people don’t like him because that’s true of every prime minister ever.

@charliecolecc Did they ever fix the sending junior doctors to random places rather than how they used to do it by letting them pick basis their test scores? that was another retarded policy.
