Sad to hear of the death of John Stapleton. From Watchdog to Breakfast television he was a brilliant presenter. I remember him on BBC1’s Nationwide in the early evenings. Here’s my musical tribute to an outstanding journalist and broadcaster.
It’s three years since Valentina said goodbye to her kiosk in Moscow and moved back to Kursk. Here’s a reminder of her last day at work. For those who’ve been following her story I can tell you that Valentina remains upbeat & positive after her cancer treatment.
@BBCSteveR Thank you for such brilliant news detail; I remember wage arrears in former Yugoslavia; my parents would be excited to get December wages in May of the following year!
More on Russia’s economic problems – from today’s Russian papers. One paper reports “The problem of payment arrears is growing…surge in wage arrears.” Another: “Shortage of skilled labour remains key problem.” #ReadingRussia
my husband moved to @O2 & has been waiting for OVER A MONTH to port his old number!!! Called 7 times so far & been told that it will be done, and STILL NOTHING! We have disabled son & this has caused untold problems. Shame on you #O2
@BBCNews I was an #asylum seeker myself during the war in Bosnia. The worst thing for me & the taxpayers was that I was not allowed to work while waiting for the process - they should be allowed to work. beneficial for individual, not being burden 2 taxpayers. #RefugeesWelcome
#bbcqt only way to stop illegal people smuggling is to have legal ways of the applying 4 asylum. I came from Bosnia and the ONLY way I could get my parents to join me, was to pay people smugglers! My parents didn’t want to do this & by staying on in the war, they got tortured…
#bbcqt there is NO legal way of applying for asylum in the UK, so this is one of the main reasons why people are so desperate to risk their lives on the small boats.
A final thought: however difficult the last few days have been, it simply doesn’t compare to having to flee your home from persecution or war to seek refuge in a land far away. It’s heartwarming to have seen the empathy towards their plight from so many of you. 3/4
I have been presenting sport on the BBC for almost 3 decades and am immeasurably proud to work with the best and fairest broadcaster in the world. I cannot wait to get back in the MOTD chair on Saturday. 2/4
After a surreal few days, I’m delighted that we have navigated a way through this. I want to thank you all for the incredible support, particularly my colleagues at BBC Sport, for the remarkable show of solidarity. Football is a team game but their backing was overwhelming. 1/4
@SteveBartlettSC and it offers you no option of different varieties of plants- for small spaces, you might need to grow miniature varieties that would suit grow in the pots on the balcony etc.
You know what felt strange watching the big match in Moscow? For 90 minutes a Russian TV channel talked about England & France without a hint of anti-Western rhetoric. These days that’s the exception not the norm on Russian TV. #BBCWorldCup
