It's day one of the inquiry and I'm already furious to hear how such non-legal considerations influenced decisions about serious offences prior to the 2023 killings.
It's almost as if the DR and the police hadn't read the 2019 CPS guidance on suspects and defendants, isn't it?!

The Nottingham inquiry has been told Valdo Calocane "did not have capacity to be considered responsible" for an allegation in 2020. Makes as much sense as saying "condition orange" and is why the police should be wary taking legal views from doctors. thetimes.com/uk/crime/artic…

There may be a time in the future when AI intelligences may require a formal assessment under an (extensively amended MHA) (after all they do exhibit "hallucinations"), but I will thankfully be long dead by then. (Gives me an idea for a future blog).

I may be old fashioned, but it frankly sounds like a terrible idea. AI is not sentient, has no human emotions, and cannot help in any way in assessing what's going on in real life in a formal MHA assessment. I think the need for real AMHPs is going to continue for many years.

@MaskedAMHP Good evening, current AMHP here....would like to know your views on AMHPS now using A.I to write reports and rationales for MHA assessments. Seems prevalent now...my view is that it may deskill and create issues down the line...such as coroners court etc.

The Mental Health Act 2025 was enacted on 18.12.25. The Act amends the MHA 1983, which means that the amended Act will still be known as the Mental Health Act 1983. This is the link to the MHA 2025:

@ChristineMcPh15 As far as I am aware, it will only be interpretation and guidance on the amendments. I can't off the top of my head say whether people with hearing impairment are included in the new Act. If you're a member of BASW you could ask the Mental Health Thematic Group.

@MaskedAMHP Are the changes in CoP only related to the changes in the law? I was an AMHP and worked with deaf people and feel that there are changes to the CoP that are needed to improve how deaf people are responded to under the law. Are you aware who could be contacted about this?
