@1995BCu @tenobrus @KurtzMina13 Meant telomeres are a universal system that gives all cells the same limit even if they aren't synced up with one another. Idk if the length of telomeres and Hayflick limit is same in all cells though tbf

@tenobrus @KurtzMina13 Why not? I mean they aren't synchronised but they are found in all cells and with the exception of cells that express telomerase like stem cells they restrict cells to a Hayflick limit? Not centralised but still a common mechanism

@KurtzMina13 telomeres are actually very much not the same thing as a centralized synchronous clock!!!!

Technology is at its best when it solves everyday challenges. 📱 In collaboration with @transportgovuk, we’ve started rolling out live bus tracking for Maps users across England. This update gives passengers the info they need to plan journeys with confidence and precision. ⏱️🙌 Making travel smarter, one stop at a time.

Just posting this interaction for reference. This is how you politely and appropriately celebrate April fool’s day. There’s no need to trick or prank your friends. Once you betray someone’s trust, you can’t take it back. Stay safe out there and celebrate responsibly.

@Tesla I mean it made it through but this was a horribly dangerous decision lmao... It couldn't see around the bank and just assume it could get past the semi in time? That being said a human would have made the same dumb mistake

@n00dles71 Nobody is at fault this played almost exactly as it should have. The van passing was fine since it had already pulled out though the second car should probably have given way to the cyclist before going onto their side of the road

Ah yes, that famously crystal clear bit of the Highway Code that definitely says cyclists must magically disappear so drivers can overtake buses without the mild inconvenience of waiting. Really keeps the roads safe for the hard working drivers.

@Thomaspetersen This is at least an honest preference - but consider, a lot of people are fond of the physical sensation of riding a horse, of being in tune with the animal. We still ride horses, but don’t use them for mass transport anymore. And we don’t allow them on motorways.

EVs are the future. The speed that future comes and how evenly distributed it is is uncertain, but all the arguments against EVs are essentially dead. But because they have become politically coded, many on the right (and a few on the environmental left) have declared them A Bad Thing and keep hammering away at discredited and factually flawed arguments against them. No, their lifecycle emissions are not worse than those of an ICE, even if the grid remains fossil fuel powered for now. No, the battery won’t need to be replaced during the life of the car - that’s a myth based on a specific issue with early model Nissan Leafs. No, the car won’t become useless in winter. The range drop is small and the Norwegians get on fine with their EVs. No, they aren’t more expensive once you properly account for fuel savings. No, the battery isn’t sourced from artisanal mines in the Congo. Get over your partisan bias and just buy one.

This is great but trying to watch a 3 hour video on X is a terrible experience compared to YT. So easily to accidentally start scrolling X and click away from the video. And they you have to find it again and spend 5 min scrubbing through to try and find the spot you left off. This happened 3 times in 20 min and I gave up and checked if the video was on YT. @nikitabier

Please enjoy this Cheeky Pint / @dwarkesh_sp crossover with @elonmusk. Dwarkesh was most interested in how Elon is going to make space datacenters work. I was most interested in Elon's method for attacking hard technical problems, and why it hasn’t been replicated as much as you might expect. But we got into plenty of topics in this three-hour session. 00:00:23 Space GPUs 00:35:39 Alignment 00:58:48 xAI 01:15:01 Optimus 01:28:03 China 01:40:46 Management 02:16:38 DOGE 02:34:58 Space GPUs redux

@TrevorScottReal @karthikavl This isn't how they rate vehicle safety. It's based on active safety features like obstacle aware acceleration and automatic emergency braking which still come standard. Rating are based on tests carried out by EURONCAP/NHTSA not histroical crash data

My wife. My office (if you even want to call it that, it's a room with all my computer junk) gets extremely hot because of all the computers going beep boop and doing science for me. It gets so hot I begin to profusely sweat. My wife would come in the room and say something along the lines of, "Oh my God, it's hotter than Hell in here. Why don't you open the door?". Our conversation would eventually turn into her calling me something like, "Oh, you're my smelly man" and giving me a hug and kiss before leaving the room and closing the door. I would then return to internet nerd stuff such as coding or poking stuff with a stick. When I made my website I needed an alias which sounded cool, badass, and mysterious so people knew I was hardcore. I couldn't think of one, but I remembered my wife called me "smelly" a lot. That is when I decided my super cool and badass and mysterious online alias would be "smelly".

@SkylarSkye3 @juasanalghaib Agreed. Apparently I'm the only one here who tthinks this but people vasty underestimate the diversity of brains/emotional state/rational thinking of the population both due to genetic and environmental factors. People are really different mentally. Unless this is bait.

@MedicSnaps @Finehairr_ Actually, friction between the tires and ground stops being a factor the moment the plane takes off. The reason is that the atmosphere rotates along with the Earth. Because of inertia, the plane, the air around it, and the ground are all moving at the same speed.
