@DrHasson2 It could also be indicating that they aren’t motivated to take these long, stressful tests day after day for an entire week +. Some students finish a section in ten minutes. These tests are not an accurate measure of our students’ abilities and overall knowledge.

For math, the vast majority of students (75%!) in Maryland scored at levels 1 or 2, indicating they are not proficient in the material they should be for 5th grade math.

Last year’s #mcap results finally came out! A year after the students took them. Here are the 5th grade results. For those not familiar with mcap levels: 1= beginning learner 2= developing learner 3= proficient learner 4= distinguished learner We want to see levels 3 & 4

@jaxxpeng Exactly! This is why one immediate change is to raise/remove the max entry step to attract experienced teachers from different districts or states. We don’t have enough new teachers graduating from teacher prep programs to fill the need.

@tcareercoach (2 of 2) This issue forces teachers who relocate or are working in toxic situations to quit teaching rather than work in a new district for less pay or less pay then they are worth. Other professions negotiate with new hires to attract the highest caliber of workers.

@tcareercoach Pay teachers what they are worth. Highly qualified, veteran, tenured teachers who transfer from one district to another (even within the same state) are often penalized with a “step cap.” I started 5 steps below my experience level when I changed districts (1 of 2).

@TheSpaceGal @united It’s the same for teachers. We use our sick leave or go unpaid. We only get “paid” for 6 weeks (vaginal delivery) or 8 weeks (c-section) if we have enough sick time. We can take up to 12 weeks, but 6 or 4 weeks of it will be unpaid.

A pilot for @united just sent me their paid parental leave policy for pilots and I’m pretty sure (the language is confusing!) that pilots who give birth get 0 paid weeks of leave (???) To get paid time off they have to use their sick leave + vacation - @United can you verify??
