Given that reading is such a broad medium, and so accessible, the fact that elitism and status still exist between readers is absurd Also, good books often teach you empathy. If you haven’t learned to be empathetic congrats you have learned nothing from these books.

I guess books do differ in quality so a lot of this “status and elitism” thing is based on taste and taste-based hierarchies do exist across a lot of domains But there’s also things like genre & reading speed and other reading habits It just makes no sense to me
