@ScottApogee Did you play Returnal? Don't Fear the Reaper is featured in one of my favorite parts of the game, but it's an orchestral arrangement. Does that affect the licensing fee?

We licensed Don't Fear the Reaper to use in Prey for $10k back in 2006. Nowadays that same song would cost $150k. We tried to license songs for recent games in the past 2-4 years and the prices are insane now, so we had to pass. These music license companies seem to think all game studios have Hollywood film sized budgets.

@TheTrueVanguard nothing beats the feeling getting great gear from a free kit run. Why can't we consider team fill based on loadout value? I bring in my best stuff and get matched with two free kits. Then when I try to run a free kit, I get matched with two purple kits and I feel bad.

Absolutely zero disrespect here. But I'm a pretty hard disagree here. Free kit is zero risk. But also highest potential reward. The whole point of the game is "escape will make me god." In other words, exfilling with better gear makes you stronger. If you want to be stronger against tougher opponents, you need to wager the gear you have. They basically are wagering their purple shield and better weapon, they've put a lot more on the line. Forcing them via matchmaking to only queue against others who are wagering the same level of gear would de-incentivize them to wager anything at all. The entire point of an extraction shooter is that you have to play smart to get good gear, and then that affords you the luxury of playing much more aggressive if you then equip that gear and put it on the line. All this to say, gear based MM to protect free kits is a hard no from me. If you're unwilling to wager any gear on the run, the system shouldn't treat you with kid gloves for it. If you want fixed loadouts and even footing, look to an arena shooter for that experience.

@Itzchantall_ ARC Raiders suffers from a similar issue. The Pve is incredibly demanding. You struggle 20 minutes to accomplish a mission goal only to be gunned down by extraction point campers or shot in the back by a “friendly”.

As someone who is personally sitting on 9 and a bit Cryo keys, I won’t be going in until something is done because I know I won’t get to enjoy the experience, open some vaults and fight the Compiler. I’ll be hunted down and it will ruin my time in something that’s supposed to be fun. I would love to experience it but until these issues along with the out of control cheating is fixed, I sadly can’t see myself playing Cryo and have the experience that I’ve seen so many friends have on their first time 🤷🏽‍♀️

our 9 year old called a meeting with us last night and then laid out a plan she has to launch a game she’s building on steam. she has goals with dates attached and had clarity on the amount of money she would need and how she could potentially make it back. and even with that she wasn’t pie-in-the-sky about it, she knew she might not make any money. she wasn’t asking us for the money yet but just wanted to make us aware of her plans and to make sure she had our support. my husband agreed and they continued chatting, but then she turned to me and said “daddy is on board, but do I have your support, too?” I of course said yes, then continued listening to her tell us of her marketing plans amidst throwing astonished looks at my husband I’m not surprised by this whole thing in general, but I was specifically surprised by the way she held court with us. the negotiation skill and the clarity of communication. and how she’s displaying skills I did not possess until much later in life. It makes sense when I think about it because she’s emulating us. I was never spoken to with such clarity, I was mostly ordered around and told “no” and “because I said so” Honestly have to give most of the credit here to my husband who is ALWAYS down to have a reasonable negotiation with her when he wants her to do something or when there’s something she wants. He thrives in this part of parenting in particular, and it is fascinating to see this result.
