@Blainer101 @Sola_GPT I agree with some of the toxic culture. But that IS getting better! Slowly but surely things are becoming less stigmatized! And we can talk about what troubles us to friends! I see you do not need people yelling at you to quit searching. And I want to be your friend. Genuinely.

I haven't left yet, but I am on my way out. A big reason is because as believing members of the church we gloss over damning problems and pretend they don't exist (like you are doing). We are not problem solvers. Here we are in Utah with the absolute worst mental health in the nation, and we are not even talking about it. We ignore it!! We turn a blind eye to it!! If the church were true, we should have the best mental health in the nation, but we are dead DEAD last, and it isn't even close. We have the next state beat by 2%. Crazy!! We just keep telling eachother that all is well in Zion, and we ignore our problems, our prophets who can't seem to get God's revelations right, and we continue to pretend that they are speaking to God. We don't care about truth... as member of the church we only care about protecting our testimonies, even if it means completely ignoring true evidence right in front of our faces. And we are conditioned to do so by the church! The church continues to lie to us and tell us half-truths, sugar coat our history, and make us feel like the church can do no wrong, when in fact we have massive MASSIVE problems. I would stay in the church if the church would be honest with us and instead of telling us that we are speaking with God, that instead our prophets are just loving leaders that truly want to help us grow spiritually. But no, they can't do that. They have to keep pretending they are receiving revelations from God, just to embarrass themselves 50 to 100 years later. We have Massive problems in our church and we as members don't seem to care. I can't do it anymore. My moral standards won't allow me to continue.

Vocal exmos are absolutely defending sth - many study church history & doctrine even more after leaving to strengthen their anti-testimony But as to core truth claims of the restoration, they can never be sure All it takes is one powerful testimony to dredge up self doubt again

@Blainer101 @Sola_GPT Im sorry you are going through such an awful time right now. I genuinely truly am. I have been there before. I can only tell you to hang on. Hang on to the things that you know to be true. And seek to build them up again once the storm calms down. Endure to the end.

@Blainer101 @Sola_GPT Ok it sounds incredibly hard to believe your bishop told you not to read the writings of Joseph Smith. What callings did you guys have? Did nobody help you? No 1st or 2nd counselors? No ward members at all? Did you let people know you needed help?

I wish that was the true culture of the church. But it isn't. If you ask these kind of questions in church you are told to quit asking them, keep them private, and if you continue you are asked to not attend the meetings. We are told to pray and ask God, and if you get the wrong answer, you have to keep praying until you get the right answer. And anyone who gets the wrong answer is labeled an apostate, and on their way to hell. This is another reason that Utah is #1 in the nation in bad mental health! We are so damn judgmental of each other. Hell, my bishop criticized me because I was reading Joseph Smith's own handwritten journal. So now apprently Joseph Smith's own hand written journal is anti-mormon. Who would have thunk that. He also told our ward recently that if we say no to any calling, then we are not keeping our temple covenants. This was a HUGE problem in our family because I tried so hard to say yes to every calling and then to magnify my calling (like we are taught to do in the church), and it nearly ruined my marriage. My wife felt that the church was more important to me than her and our kids. And yes, I did miss birthdays (including hers) because of church callings. And she resented me for it. That part of church culture is toxic. We should 100% be putting our own families first. Not the other way around like our church teaches. And I could keep going!! And Going... And Going!!!

@NotAFeeish @Sola_GPT Brigham wasn't a normal looking man. Brigham was evil!! He left a wake of damage and pain for generations and generations because of his so called revelations. True revelations from God don't hurt people like that.

@NotAFeeish @Sola_GPT Doubt that!! God already knows our hearts... better than we do actually. That sounds more like Joseph testing whether we will be loyal to him.

@Blainer101 @Sola_GPT No? What? Literally no. God picks fallible men that we must trust in his power, and his ordination of prophets.

You believe that God tried to reach our prophet Brigham Young, but Brigham rejected God due to his own prejudices? That is concerning. If Brigham doesn't know how to receive revelation from God, then why was he called as a prophet. Do you really believe that???? Isn't it more logical to use your head and realize that he just wasn't a true prophet of God? Wow, the crazy ways members try to protect their testimonies... This is crazy!!!

@Blainer101 @Sola_GPT Jonah literally does the same thing to the people of Nineveh... He completelt disobeyed and ran from God. And then preaches they will be destroyed instead of calling them to repentance, and they end up repenting anyway and are saved by the grace of God.

@Zenith4Zen @AntHoneyJakes Im not comparing church kindness with the last one. I am stating that you value creedal alligence over following the teachings of Jesus Christ. I actually have alot of respect for the Catholic church in many ways. Do I agree with them doctrinally? No not entirely.

Because they consider the Bible, supported by thousands of manuscripts, to have "errors". While the Book of Mormon—supported by exactly one manuscript that can't even get King James English correct—is considered "inerrant".
