This is true if you are content with a system where MPs don't engage with what they are voting on and just get pointed towards a voting lobby by a party whip. It's crucial to democracy that MPs engage with the content of each vote and come to an informed view.

The “MPs shouldn’t drink and vote” debate is a bit of a red herring because so often there's no cognitive function involved in voting. Most MPs show up to the voting lobbies when the bells ring, are told by their whips which division lobby to go through, and it’s job done. As long as they’re able to walk in a straight line the booze is neither here nor there.

@swansalona1 A number of things I think. Being in the middle of nowhere in a country that doesn't have greyhound racing, when the money comes from rescuing racing greyhounds, was bound to bring challenges though.

#politas #GreyhoundRacing. Noting that a certain ‘independent’ MLC has actually been publicly asserting that dog race tracks are the ‘safest place’ for greyhounds. You don’t have to care about animals to deeply worry about the quality of the logic and the analysis? 😀

@EddieJamesTips I think all of gambling, narcotics & alcohol should be legal and regulated in line with advancing a public health approach. Legalisation/decriminalisation is not liberalisation. But prohibition means it has become a criminal justice issue. That’s bad for everyone and fuels crime

What a lovely way for a charity founder/CEO to refer to people.. Has anyone ever seen any evidence of the racing industry sending dogs to China? A handful of individuals doing it is not 'the industry'. These minor details matter. To some of us anyway.
