Many people out there have no idea how university rankings work and how easy it is for ill-regulated universities to manipulate and rank highly to dupe the unsuspecting public. This is actually done by some Ugandan universities. Ask the professors there, they’ll tell you the tricks used. That’s why the public is confused why some universities that compromise a lot on quality rank highly, while some of those that are known for sticking to the right thing rank lower. In a corrupt environment, anything goes and otherwise good initiatives lose meaning. Ironically, National Council of Higher Education is aware of all we are talking about.

Nearly every institutions have challenges but responsiveness to concerns and making continous improvements are things that build trust and good reputation. But denials and insensitivity to concerns is suicidal for an institution.
