Romania welcomes the 10-day ceasefire agreed between Lebanon and Israel, facilitated by the United States through highly commendable efforts.
We hope this step will lead to a permanent cessation of hostilities and a durable peace that ensures the security of both Lebanon and Israel.
We call on all parties to adhere fully to the terms of the ceasefire and engage in good-faith negotiations.
Romania reaffirms its support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and commends the Lebanese Government’s efforts to restore state authority and ensure the monopoly of arms across its entire territory, including steps towards Hezbollah’s disarmament, in line with the UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
Romania will continue to support efforts aimed at de-escalation and ensuring peace in the broader region.

Romania shows solidarity via humanitarian assistance. It is in this spirit that, alongside our EU partners, we have decided to support the civilian population in Lebanon, severely affected by the current security crisis in the Middle East.
Today, 15 tons of humanitarian aid from the National State Reserves of Romania - food, tents, and essential shelter items - departed for Amman, aboard two aircraft of the Romanian Air Force @MApNRomania. This operation reflects the capacity for rapid response, as well as our effective interinstitutional national and European cooperation.
From Jordan, the humanitarian aid will reach Beirut, Lebanon, as part of a multinational humanitarian convoy.
The decision to provide this assistance was adopted within the National Committee for Emergency Situations, in response to the request transmitted through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, which also covers 75% of transport costs.
Romania reaffirms its commitment to supporting those in need.
European solidarity means concrete action. @eu_echo @MPopowskiEU @mofalebanon1 @MAIRomania @DSU_Romania

@_OrbanAnita

My congratulations to our Hungarian neighbours for a historic participation and a landslide win for TISZA.
Yesterday will remain in history as a clear proof that democracies have the antidote to fight Russian influence and propaganda crafted on fear.
That antidote is participation in high numbers and hope, one reflected across all generations and across the country.
As neighbors we always invested in our relationship and now we can turn to an even stronger chapter for Bucharest and Budapest, bilaterally, within the EU and NATO, as well as in the region.
We share more than a border and history. We also share people with their hopes, worries and needs.
Together we can do more for Romanians and Hungarians, despite the very real challenges we face globally in our region.
We have a real opportunity for enhanced security and greater prosperity for our peoples. Building on the clarity that our countries are stronger and can deliver more for our citizens if we can continue building together an even stronger European Union.
Much looking forward to working towards this end with my counterpart in Budapest.

The tragic events in the Middle East over the last month have proven once again that the region needs a comprehensive understanding which would bring about regional peace. This is especially the case for Lebanon whose people have payed the ultimate price time and again.
We feel encouraged by the recent ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran and expect all sides to implement it in good faith, including in Lebanon, while also striving a path to sustainable security in the region.
We also welcome the openness of both Israel and Lebanon to initiate direct negotiations. In this respect, Romania considers that the Lebanese Government’s decision to move toward enforcing UN Security Council resolution 1701, to disarm Hezbollah and to establish a state monopoly on weapons is commendable and represents a sign of good faith. Peace can be achieved only through dialogue, diplomacy and mutual trust.
We also express our deep regret over the tragic toll the conflict has inflicted among civilians on all sides and call on all parties to strictly abide by the international law, in particular IHL, and the relevant UN Resolutions. While we fully understand Israel’s security concerns and the need to protect its own citizens against Hezbollah’s indiscriminate attacks, we consider that protecting civilian lives and infrastructure must remain a priority.
Romania remains committed to support efforts aimed at easing tensions and achieving a sustainable peace in the region.

Just concluded a call with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, @SecRubio, a good discussion reflecting on the current security developments.
Our cooperation for deterrence and defence remains relevant in the current security context, anchored in a long-standing and trusted Strategic Partnership.
We focused on security, economic developments and shared priorities shaping upcoming high-level and ministerial engagements this year.
We explored ways to further deepen bilateral cooperation, advancing joint efforts in defense, energy, technology, critical minerals and people to people ties.
We consider the relationships between our countries to be important not just from a bilateral point of view but also as a strong connection in the region.
I emphasized Romania’s active contribution to Allied coordination on the Eastern Flank and the increased focus on growing the economic dimension of our strategic partnership.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania and the Department of State have just finalized the formal partnership agreement for the MECEA program and the first US Congress teams delegation as part of the program is to arrive in Romania by end of year.

Romania joins the statement on the ceasefire concluded between the United States and Iran.
"Statement by President Macron, Prime Minister Meloni, Chancellor Merz, Prime Minister Starmer, Prime Minister Carney, President Dan, Prime Minister Frederiksen, Prime Minister Jetten, Prime Minister Mitsotakis, Prime Minister Sanchez, Prime Minister Takaichi, President of the European Commission von der Leyen, President of the European Council Costa
We welcome the two-week ceasefire concluded between the United States and Iran today.
We thank Pakistan and all partners involved for facilitating this important agreement.
The goal must now be to negotiate a swift and lasting end to the war within the coming days. This can only be achieved through diplomatic means.
We strongly encourage quick progress towards a substantive negotiated settlement.
This will be crucial to protect the civilian population of Iran and ensure security in the region. It can avert a severe global energy crisis.
We support these diplomatic efforts. To this end, we are in close contact with the United States and other partners.
We call upon all sides to implement the ceasefire, including in Lebanon.
Our Governments will contribute to ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz."

Romania welcomes the US - Iran two-week ceasefire agreement in the Middle East, which marks a critical step towards de-escalation in the region, and commends the work of regional mediators, in particular Pakistan, working together with Egypt and Türkiye.
We underline the need for all parties to fully respect and implement the cessation of hostilities in good faith, which would allow the negotiators to continue their work.
It is also crucial that navigation through the Strait of Hormuz is resumed and that the freedom of navigation is safeguarded in accordance with international law, thus contributing to a return to stability and predictability of the energy and food markets.
We support the diplomatic efforts aimed at addressing all salient issues between the parties. Alongside our international partners, in particular the UN - including from the position held within the Board of Governors of IAEA, the EU and as part of the International Initiative for the Strait of Hormuz, Romania will further contribute to the stability and security of the region.

I received with great concern the news of Ambassador Collete Avital, Israeli diplomat and politician born in Romania and holocaust survivor, being hurt during a protest in Tel Aviv.
She is such a clear voice of dignity and humanism whether as a determined fighter against antisemitism or as a promoter of peace and human rights.
I wish her full and speedy recovery and express my conviction this incident will be investigated. Protecting the right to air grievances in a democracy is essential.

RO is deepening its engagement with @ASEAN!
With President @NicusorDanRO signing into law, Romania’s accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) gets in straight line. We are unlocking stronger trade ties, deeper partnerships, and more resilient supply chains with one of the world’s most dynamic regions.
I look forward to working together with @SecLazaro, my counterpart from the Philippines as 2026 ASEAN Chair, to formalize Romania’s accession to the TAC.

President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, and the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, met today in Bucharest and decided to elevate our bilateral relationship to the level of a Strategic Partnership, the highest level of cooperation between two states.
This is a crucial moment between two neighboring countries. In difficult times, we have strengthened our partnership and friendship, looking wisely at our shared history and at the responsibility to build trust between our peoples.
Ukraine’s fight to protect its land, people, and future is a struggle that also safeguards Europe and us. We remain committed to supporting their efforts to restore peace and security in the region, as well as their integration into the European Union.
The joint commitment to peace and prosperity in the region also has practical dimensions:
•Framework arrangement for cooperation in the energy sector
•Partnership for the development of the defense industry
•Mutual respect for the culture and identity of our peoples
As I announced with @andrii_sybiha during the first visit I took to Ukraine last year, we decided to work together so that the Romanian language has a dedicated day. After today’s meeting of the Presidents, we can now say that August 31 will officially be that day every year (Decree 235/2026).
