I'm wondering, why is this extra step required? It seems pointless, as you can't fake a digital license for the first boot-up, and the PlayStation will reject it anyway. What's the purpose? If they were honest about the purpose of this, we could decide if we're okay with it.

@HyperMetalSeth After 14 days the drm changes to a permanent key if console is connected to internet if not then 30 days of no internet means you 'lose' the license just sign in once and this is for recent purchases, this is to prevent piracy.
