So excited to announce publication of our new research manuscript in @CircRes on “DC ENaC-Dependent Inflammasome Activation Contributes to Salt-Sensitive Hypertension”👇🏿

Congrats 1st author @ashleylpitzer! Big Thanks to Co-authors

@r_aravinth_ Perhaps the relevant question is whether the chances of saving kidneys are significantly better than chances of ischemia. I doubt the trials included v. heavy proteinuria. Many excluded PAD. Perhaps the horse is out of the barn.

#askrenal 70/M with Diabetes-Severly increased albuminuria.Normal renal function. Has asymptomatic upper extremity PAD and Claudication in lower limbs.Started on DAPA by Physician.Should we stop it?

If people wonder why I keep switching patients from short-acting furosemide to longer-acting torsemide, it’s because of the top graph.
Green bar above dashed line (na excretion from furosemide) rapidly approaches pink area (compensatory reabsorption)—>0 net naturiesis.

@NEJM Isn't this just another way of stating cov poses a greater risk to the obese?
Have to imagine greater the sodium intake greater the likelihood of obesity
English

In a study involving 10,709 adults, higher sodium intake was significantly associated with higher cardiovascular risk in a dose–response manner with a daily sodium intake of approximately 2000 to 6000 mg. #AHA21 nej.md/3orqk7k

English

@MaryPrante @NEJM Assuming steady-state, intake = excretion. Generally regarded as a better estimate than, say, food questionnaires or food diaries. Though not as precise as a laboratory-supplied diet, it allows long-term evaluation.

Could have been a scene with one of my medical school attendings. But now I realize... I have become that attending...

@askrenal Reading about U.S. nursing shortages due to COVID. cnn.com/2021/06/27/us/…

@LabTouyz gave an outstanding talk on physiology of #magnesium at magnesiumworkshop2021.com. She referenced a shocking study showing change in fruit/veg mineral content 1914-2018. Speaks volumes about contemporary mineral deficiency!

@bramaccimmyt @CIMMYT @ACCIMMYT @vmva1950 I didn't realize Zn deficiency was so prevalent. Underscores the importance of @clintoria's work showing that Zn deficiency promotes hypertension - the number one risk factor for disability adjusted life-years globally.

Zinc deficiency is one of the causes of malnutrition that affects 2 billion people. @CIMMYT & its allies developed a new zinc-biofortified wheat that is being spread with the help of seed company partners in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Mexico & Bolivia. bit.ly/3gqXeCK

Amiloride and Triamterene reduce proteinuria!

@hswapnil @AmJNephrol Nice. Thought this effect was secondary to inhibition of connecting tubule glomerular feedback (ENaC dependent antagonism of TGF) as shown by Oscar Carretero, @cesarom1 et al.
