Who only ever started 46 League games for the club before being sold for £35m, to get within PSR restrictions... Less than 2 years on, he's going to start for England at a World Cup and the most successful club in the Premier League over the last 15 years is having £106m initial bids for his signature turned down. That's got to hurt.

Rather than cashing in on established first-team stars, Newcastle opted to sell two of their brightest young prospects: Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh. Anderson’s £35M transfer was especially valuable from an accounting perspective. As a homegrown academy product, the entire fee counted as pure profit on the club’s books, giving Newcastle a significant PSR boost. Financially, the move may have made sense at the time. But now, it looks like one of the biggest mistakes in modern football.
