Finally - It is official. Thank you @atvbahajournals for highlighting the amazing work of Aomeng Cui in the @AgalliuLab and Sproul labs to generate IPSC-derived human brain endothelial cells and build a 3D iPSC - derived neurovascular unit for studying neurological diseases.

In a project led by Rory Long, we developed a 3D brain microvessel coverage that recapitulate physiology pericyte coverage. We found that malaria products halt angiopoietin secretion by pricytes, a vascular protective molecule. We could rescue barrier disruption with AKB-9778!

Researchers at EMBL Barcelona highlight malaria-induced disruption of pericytes, bringing us a step closer to understanding how cerebral malaria damages the brain, and how these damages could be prevented or reversed. embl.org/news/science-t…

Congrats to my postdoc, Aya Ludin Tal, on her Cell paper. Her work using live imaging in zebrafish identifies CRATERS on the surface of melanoma - immune hubs for T cells. CRATERS in human melanoma are the best predictors of immunotherapy success. authors.elsevier.com/sd/article/S00…

Colliding ribosomes are potent signals of cellular stress. But do cells use ‘programmed’ ribosome collisions to regulate gene expression? I’m excited to present a new story led by Frederick Rehfeld revealing that the answer is YES! Read on to find out how. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
