@erxclau @chrispahm Yeah spatial indices make a big difference! It can be tricky to implement them within TurfJS itself because everyones use cases are a little different, but we do where we can :)

Hey @chrispahm — thanks for creating geos-wasm! I've been working on a website that requires finding thousands of polygon intersections and it was taking over a minute with Turf. After switching over to geos-wasm, I'm down to 10 seconds! 😁

@erxclau @chrispahm Yeah that one should have the relevant fix 😢. How many geoms are you processing? Generally intersect is a pretty complex operation so not surprising that it takes a while. Would be interesting to pass them through jsts and see how that goes in comparison.

@dinomirMT Totally bonkers. I don't know that there's any way to fix this, in postgis! My issue is doing a ST_Transform of a projected, antimeridian-crossing polygon results in something that is basically wrong... it's a real pain, and I don't know any workarounds!

So, speaking of antimeridian shenanigans. Is there a way in PostGIS to handle transformation from a projected CRS to an "antimeridian-sane" geography or geometry? Currently my nice little square is getting absolutely destroyed by an ST_Transform to `epsg:4326`

Hi #geospatial! Looking for advice I'd like to build a demonstrator which fetches remote geo datasets from endpoints which update regularly - a mix of geojson urls, WFS, pbf, arcgis REST, WMS, TMS etc In order to aggregate them on a map All sources loaded on a @qgis project: ✅

#gischat many years ago someone did a great analysis, tweet or blog post about why most of the things we add to web maps / data portals are useless, and not used by 99% of people. Eg the measure tool, coordinate conversion, etc. Does anyone know where this is located? Thanks

@SimonGIS The closest I've played with was some Sydney ferry data. It had passenger numbers for different trips etc. Half-started a map-based visualisation but never finished it off completely

Anyone seen a dataset similar to the NYC Taxi one but in Australia? Trip locations with start/end locations? nyc.gov/site/tlc/about…

@stevage1 Depending on requirements things like simplifying your geometries and making sure you only store the required decimal precision make a big difference. But yep there will be times when adding to the stack using a DB or whatever becomes the only option.

@RowanWinsemius I'm also a bit concerned about leaving all the polygons in memory. It's a small server. But I won't know till I get the full dataset.

Ok, here's what I'm trying to do: Node backend process to receive a polygon and compute all intersections between it and a stored set of polygons (hundreds), then compute area of each, quickly. What tools? Turf too slow I think. Prefer w/o Postgres. Ideas? #gischat

Is there a global "Equal Earth" CRS in Proj now, compatible with GDAL and referenced with an EPSG code?

@tmcw I tried out Stytch recently and found it pretty good to work with, I hadn't heard of it before but it had the features I was looking for in a hosted auth solution. stytch.com

@getbounds Fun! Does it handle reprojection on the fly, or does the COG need to be in web mercator? I tried a pure js approach a while back but reprojection was my biggest challenge github.com/rowanwins/geot…

@petegadomski @matthmohr @STACspec @foss4gna I'm loving working with pypgstac, stac-fastapi, pystac-client and odc-stac... It's a really nice stack (heh). What I haven't got working nicely, outside the old OpenDataCube world, is a WMS server... If anyone is driving one of those of a pypgstac DB, I'd love to know!

i made a quick little diagram of the @STACspec software ecosystem for the sprint this week what'd i miss? does this layout makes sense? how do you think about these things? (asking for a friend who will be talking about the same stuff at @foss4gna in about a month)

@alexgleith @stevage1 Some of the buildings even have logos on them! And interesting & great to see the adoption of the Cesium B3DM spec, rather than another new way of distributing that style of data.

#gischat - any favorite worked examples for displaying COGs (both multiband and single band w/ color map) in a webmap? I've struggled, esp. w/ larger @cogeotiff files, and would love to finally "get" it Pluses if it has a legend and is in @LeafletJS

@robinlovelace @martinfleis This sounds like an interesting problem! I guess most simplification algorithms work on a per geometry basis, rather than considering surrounding geoms. I wonder how vector tile generation handles this - @enf might have some ideas from Tippecanoe world?

Playing with network simplification methods... Visvalingam algorithm way more effective, but seems unable to merge parallel lines on more complex networks. Any ideas on how to do this? A short thread with links... First-up: Visvalingam works well for simple example!
