The end of an era as Adrian Boyle hands over the reins and I become RCEM president as of Sept 11th. He’s been immense. Big shoes to fill. Thanks to Adrian for his tireless efforts over the last 3 years.

Today marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Royal College of Emergency Medicine as Dr Ian ‘Higgi’ Higginson officially takes on the role of President, bringing years of experience as VP and a strong track record in tackling crowding, promoting sustainable EM, and improving workplace culture. Welcome, President Higginson! As Dr Adrian Boyle hands over the Presidency of RCEM, we reflect on a tenure defined by advocacy, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the specialty. Adrian’s leadership has spanned a period of immense challenge and transformation in Emergency Medicine. From winter pressures to workforce strain, he has consistently championed the needs of patients and clinicians alike. Last trip as Registrar. Won’t miss the dodgy piano at Stockport or even dodgier toilets on west coast trains, even though this one’s on time for a change. Will miss my colleagues @RCPath and the teamwork in responding to endless challenges.

My last Trustee Board yesterday : great day looking forward to the work of the next @RCPath honorary officer team led by the tireless @BernieCroal. Enforced overnights at RCGP allowed for some uncharacteristically nerdy boxset buying activity. AGM in 2 weeks: obscurity beckons!
