If this proves to be the case it’s an opportunity to reunite the independence movement behind the only party machine that can lead to an independent Scotland. A 2nd vote for Independence only has effect by voting SNP 1/2, returning an SNP majority = precedent for Indy referendum

Is anyone else out there confused? Swinney recently launched the new SNP independence campaign under the banner, ‘You’re Right to Decide.’ A few hours ago he gave a speech to conference in which he said that the only route to Scottish independence was with Westminster’s (UK) permission. Now, maybe I’m missing something but there’s a screaming contradiction here: it is either our right to decide or it is the English/UK government’s. It cannot be both.

Starmer’s Brit Card: like a Nectar card, but instead of points you just lose your democratic rights if you live in Scotland.

As to the supposed uselessness of taking Scotland's case to the UN: is there nothing to be gained from first hand interaction with diplomatic missions? Nothing useful in an ongoing dialogue with the constitutional lawyer who represents New Caledonia; no value in approaches from a variety of states offering support and assistance? Nothing of interest in being asked to deliver our dossier privately to UN member state governments? Nothing to be won for Scotland from letting the world know that England (all nations readily understand the UK as such) lied about a voluntary partnership and can not substantiate its claims? No value in making it clear in the strongest of international legal terms that Scotland is a sovereign territorial nation, that the Scottish Crown is real, extant and the symbol not of a monarch but of the people of Scotland? No value in telling the world that Scots as an indigenous people, in all circumstances, are being illegally deprived of their extensive natural resources? Nothing of the remotest interest in showing the world the wonder of the human rights provisions of the astonishing Claim of Right, the earliest model for the American Constitution? No benefit from the pressure brought to bear on England to not only 'tolerate' a democratic event but actively assist with it as Scotland’s administering Power? We challenge Tommy Sheppard to explain why each and every one of these steps do not serve the cause of Scottish independence. In the attached letter to The National Suzanne Henderson questions Tommy’s intervention, explaining the ways in which he is entirely missing the point, and exposing a mindset that Scottish nationalist politicians of all stripes must break out of if they are to continue to be regarded as serious about leading Scotland back to statehood.
