We need to have a positive energy that is focused on using the enormous power of the RW base, and that will motivate that base so that we are in much better place 34 months from now, rather than a worse place. Sorry for rambling, but I don't like the current direction. 9/

This is absolutely not the time to doom, or to teach Trump a lesson by walking away. It's hard to frame the specifics, but this is what I do know - we're not seeing it yet, and I'm not impressed by what I'm seeing from many prominent RW accounts. 8/

I'm getting a good bit of pushback that, well, I agree with. The war was a mistake. Trump has repeatedly split his base by taking actions that benefit the donor class while harming the RW base. That said, we are where we are, and where do we go from here? Trump is who we have 1/

@SaysSimulation It is precisely because I view the left as so dangerous that I am so frustrated by the administration embracing the risks of this action. It is likely to empower the left, make Trump a lame duck, and - in the worst case - poison the well of right wing populism, globally.

@jswilzn63 I don't know how long you've been following me, but I've been talking about Trump splitting the base for ~5 months now, in terms of farmers, visas, Chinese students, and so forth. Bad choices, imo. Identifying Israel as the primary enemy is a different issue.

@SaysSimulation Wrong take hoss. I’m also in Midwest - rural- and the feeling of betrayal and abandonment by Trumpies is real. This take is what got us into the uniparty. Well we did something really bad, but don’t abandon us because other side is worse. And we get to same place slower.

I use a different reality screen than many on here. As a populist account living in the middle of the Heartland, I think about the masses of people who form the RW base The current online split is about enemy identification. Some "intellectual" accounts here are saying Israel 1/

Excellent thread. Important to understand the stakes we are dealing with I oppose this war in Iran. I think the timing is bad, I rhink its high risk and it completely drowns out the wins we have domestically HOWEVER If you are using this event as your reason to break away from Trump and denounce him and MAGA than its clear that you have no interest in winning Trump risked his, and his families financial and personal safety to ascend to power and fight for a better America To flush him away is insisting that winning means nothing to you, but instead all you want is emotional validation for your pet grievances Thats why you will jump from Thomas Massie, to Marjorie Taylor Greene to Ro Khanna to whoever the next Jerry Springer style, attention whore politican is that emotionally validates you Then eventually they will fail your purity tests and you will spend months trashing them until the next one goes on a podcast and soothes you Its perfectly fine to criticize Trump, but the over the top denials of his personhood are ridiculous If Democrats win they will smash you no matter what your pet project is Grow up and start thinking about winning instead of whining

We've got a real problem in the RW community on X, but not to nearly the same degree in the real world. What that tells me is these accounts that are abandoning the movement can be disregarded, for without the RW base they have zero power. Imo. 6/

RW accounts who cannot deliver the base have no power. It's just people spouting off online. Can you sell it to the RW base in Indiana, Arkansas or North Dakota? Or would those people consider you to be nuts, someone on the fringe? 5/

@rustbeltkid1 @RolandGunnTN I know quite a bit about Arkansas. It's called part of the Mid-South, I would argue it is definitively part of the Upland South. Northern Arkansas and Southern Missouri are the Ozarks, they are one place.

@3rdGenVol My mother was from a town on the Ohio river, so that fundamentally changes my regional view. While from the north bank of the river, she considered herself Southern. Which was the norm in the area.

@SaysSimulation The problem you will always run into with these maps is to accurately describe the Ohio River valley, which is in itself a very distinct subregion

On a state-level basis, this is how I would break out the four distinct main cultures of the Midwest & South. The Upland South is the bridge between the Deep South & Lower Midwest, even as the Lower Midwest is the bridge between the Upland South and the Upper Midwest. 1/

Interesting thread, worth reading. I believe the whole North/South thing is simplistic and creates an artificial hard split. Imo, it's really 4 cultures in a gradient: Deep South to Upland South to Lower Midwest to Upper Midwest. Or, 3 ways, with Greater Appalachia merging 1/

This is my view of what the "Heartland" is, on a state-level basis. If we go to counties, we should likely add in eastern California, Oregon & Washington, as well as western Pennsylvania, New York & Maryland.

I expect the greatest controversy with this map would be Oklahoma, which is not traditionally considered to be a Midwestern state. Polls show that they think of themselves as being Midwestern rather than Southern, and the culture, particularly in Eastern OK, is lower Midwestern 4

In my opinion, the split of 2 into 4 is actually a better way of building unity. We're a gradient, there isn't and shouldn't be a hard split between "North" & "South". The border states - and the areas bordering the border states - were much more complicated than many know. 3/
