@Ericis_Grumpy I had an n64 too. I just remember all my friends, whether they were nerds, jocks or normies played FFVII. Even my friend's dad played the game. It was crazy.
Before that point I think I had maybe seen FFVI played by a neighbor, one time
English

@SomethingClassc Not around me in California. We had more kids with N64, and even played our old Genesis, and NES back then. It was a rarity for middle and high schoolers i knew to have Playstations, unless their dads gamed.
English

It was the first RPG that EVERYONE I knew played. EVERYONE played it. Hard to overstate this.
It also got so many of us into the genre and from there we went back and discovered so many incredible games and became life long fans

当時リアルタイムでプレイしてた人に聞きたい。FFⅦって発売当初からすげぇぇてなってたの?

@253Krakoan Yea, there was a dedicated niche group of gamers who had been playing console RPGs since the NES and maybe even before. Sadly I was not one. Luckily this game got me on board and I went back and played all the great games I had missed!
English

@SomethingClassc Opposite for me. This was in no way my gateway jrpg I had been playing RPG’s since the NES. When FF7 came out i was eleven and I wasn’t really blown away by any of it except the graphics.

@SomethingClassc remember the commercials!? shit was mainstream as a game could be back then
English

@jakmasplays yea the TV commercials were huge. I distinctly remember seeing them
English

When talking about FFVII, people rarely mention just how big the marketing campaign for it was back then.

@CedricAPhillips I borrowed FFVII from my neighbor for months. I did not have a memory card so I kept replaying the Midgar section over and over. The day my mom finally bought me a memory card, I stayed up all night and got to the Gold Saucer.
English

One of my favorite life stories
I rented this game from Blockbuster with my best friend the day it came out. We didn’t own memory cards for some reason (young, dumb, etc)
We stayed up until like 6am, got close to the end of Midgar and were like “We’re probably close to beating the game. Should we just leave the Playstation on and finish the game when we wake up?”

I’m always excited to see what’s next in the world of indie JRPGs but don’t forget there are so many out already!
-Cosmic Star Heroine
-Chained Echoes
-Ara Fell
-Quartet
Heavy recommend all of these.

@jesse8bit @NomDGames @ZeboydGames Enjoyed both of their games! CSH was a great playthrough too. Really fun
English

@NomDGames @ZeboydGames @SomethingClassc Second Ara Fell! The follow up game to it was really great too, Rise of the Third Power. Not a sequel, but the devs really did a great job.

💥Robot Rhapsody is 100% human made!
I felt it's important to say in today's era! 👀
Personally I'd never trade the creative process away for cheap conveniences. It diminishes the point of making games to begin with. 🎨🤌

@dazettairyouiki Was his tone more serious and "tough guy"? Just looking for any basic gist.
