Are you suggesting that the US is going to intercept 70 tankers before they arrive in China, commandeer the ships, and find willing customers for stolen oil?

Hi, I wrote the sanctions that @SecScottBessent is talking about. And I publicly suggested the policy lever he’s suggesting today. Taking Iran’s oil and releasing it to the market without Tehran getting paid a nickel still requires waiver or license. It’s low hanging fruit.

Even with long held disputes like Taiwan, there has been no military confrontation in almost 80 years. To you think Taiwan would exist in the way it has if it was next to the U.S? Genuinely nope.

BOMBSHELL: Iran offered to give away ALL of its enriched uranium during peace talks in Geneva. The British thought it was a credible offer. Hours later, Trump started bombing Iran anyway. The US didn't want peace, they wanted war.

@Sweeegu @TheMindScourge They were a pariah state with massive internal conflicts and now they’re a severely wounded/diminished one. Even if the regime manages to survive this, it seems very unlikely to me that they’ll be in a position to dictate/negotiate terms with anyone.

Everyone has known about the Hormuz vulnerability for decades. The Iranians have continually hinted around closing it, but never did. Now they have, but Hormuz is a gun that cannot be reloaded.
Deterrents work only up to the point of use. Once used, they have failed. The purpose of a deterrent is to *not* be used
Many analysts have made this basic mistake. They think that Iran is now in a position of strength, having exercised its Hormuz option. But the opposite is true. A state is weakest after it has used its deterrent. The cost of that deterrence is now priced in. The worst having been done, the targets of the deterrent are now free to make other arrangements. Before, they were reluctant to do so because of the switching costs. Now, they have no choice; they will not allow themselves to be controlled in this way again
Hormuz may never reopen. But the importance of this is a depreciating asset.

Yes, probably. If they offer permanent residence or citizenship, I think a lot of people would sign up. Certainly a lot of Africans, South Asians. Maybe even Western Europeans and Americans (many of these have volunteered in Ukraine and died in Ukraine for peanuts)
