Two of the three people convicted of murdering British botanist Rachel Saunders and her husband Rodney Saunders earlier refused to attend the Durban High court proceedings. Bibi Patel and Safyuadeen Dell Vecchio declined to appear for the testimony of a defence witness during sentencing proceedings but have now entered the courtroom. The pair, along with co-accused Musa Jackson, were convicted of kidnapping, murdering and robbing the couple in the Ongoye Forest in northern KwaZulu-Natal in 2018. Winnie Cloete, 71-years-old, was last seen on 18 June 2026 when she reportedly left her home to go to Mall of Carnival. She does not have a cellphone and was driving a white 2011 BMW X3 with Mpumalanga registration plates. Anyone with information that could assist in locating Winnie Cloete, is urged to contact Colonel Scheepers of the Brakpan Detectives on 082 822 8069.
