@DrBradJohnson But remember, building relationships is not the same as dictating relationships. And expectations go both ways.

The first week of school should focus on building relationships. And part of that is establishing routines, procedures, and expectations. Consistency helps students feel more secure.

Thank you @MrsFarleyDLC for launching the Digital Citizenship program so creatively in class today! Students were excited to unpack their “survival kits” and relate the items inside to responsible internet behaviors. Students impressed us with the connections they made!

@KyleHamstra I think this is most of the way toward a good idea, though serving as subs is probably not the answer. Serving as part-time teachers aides might be, though. Then you're getting experience with specific classes, working WITH experienced teachers.

Reflection: Is it time to have education majors in colleges begin working at local schools as substitute teachers? Is it time to update and integrate the student-teaching experience? Can we merge college ed courses of theory with practical experiences like subbing 2 days a week?

@swincat1 @edconversations @mraspinall I think your question shows agreement with the original tweet. These future doctors and lawyers are cheating because passing the exam is more important that learning the material to them. Thats shows a weakness/flaw in the system.

When students cheat on assignments it is because they have been taught that grades are more important than knowing things. We need to fix this.

There's a lot of talk about academic learning loss and strategies to overcome it, but not enough of us are talking about the social and behavioral learning loss that occurred over the pandemic. Ts need help with rooms full of students who are behaving 2 grade levels below usual.

Give more trust to educators! 🙌
