It is impossible for states to “disobey” an executive order. An executive order is a vehicle by which a president directs executive-branch officials how to administer existing law. Trump cannot “mandate” how states administer their absentee-ballot laws. Insofar as the EO will threaten to withhold federal funds, Trump will need a statutory basis for imposing that condition. (And if he has one, why hasn’t he acted before now?)

KC folks- as requested, here’s what you ought to know. Now someone do one for y’all, please. Management: Jeter’s attempt at leading the Marlins was a travesty- we hate him. We’re generally not super fond of owner Bruce Sherman because he’s a cheap ass. That said, our new-ish POBO, Peter Bendix is an absolute stud. He has turned around the entire farm system and training programs for the team in two years. Not all of us, but many of us pay a LOT of attention to said farm system because it’s looking dangerous. Pitching: we love Sandy Alcantara but I think most of us recognize that he is well past his prime. Eury Pérez is the future- Cy Young caliber pitcher. We have two starting pitching prospects in AAA that we think will make it into the bigs and be big time contributors at some point this year: Robby Snelling and Thomas White (both lefty). Mid to back end rotation is extremely questionable. Chris Paddack is a new sign, Max Meyer has never been able to consistently throw the stuff we know he can, and Janson Junk gives up hits but commands the zone very well and is a dependable if not unremarkable SP5. Bullpen is super solid. Not enough lefties, but we mostly feel good about them. Also some really nasty relievers in AAA that will see the majors this year like William Kempner, Josh White, and Josh Ekness. Pitching depth goes very deep in our whole system. One guy starting in FCL this year, Kevin Defrank, many of us think might be the future of Marlins pitching. Outfield: Stowers is sick but injured a lot and we really want to see him repeat last year before getting sold on him. Marsee and Conine are absolute studs. Heriberto Hernandez is a great player but I just don’t know how long he keeps performing as well as he does. Owen Caissie came from the cubs and we’re not sure about him yet- not proven in the bigs whatsoever. Gold glove utility man and WBC champion Javier Sanoja is my prince and I would die for him. Slater got signed two days ago as a lefty platoon guy to cover Stowers while he’s out. Infield: big hole at 1B. Right now they’re trying to fill it with Chris Morel who was signed this offseason but that’s not going well. Backup catcher Liam Hicks also fills in there as does Conine, but nobody seems to be great at it. 2B Edwards is a killer and a Miami icon- big time contact guy. Same goes for SS Lopez who many of us suspect will have a breakout season this year. 3B is questionable. Norby hasn’t ever really gotten a hold of the position nor hit well enough to justify mid defense, but we also have Graham Pauley who has Gold Glove caliber defense and big time pop, but loses balls on the warning track too much. Catcher is the biggest debate. We have Agustin Ramirez who has a ton of potential as a power hitter, but who is a horrible defender behind the dish. Hicks is okay at the plate, but pretty mid behind it. That said, we suspect that Joe Mack who plays in AAA will get called up this year and he has MiLB Gold Glove last season at catcher plus great pop. Once he gets his bat right, he’ll be the every day catcher and we think Agustin ends up as a DH. Other stuff: we’ve never won our division but have pulled off two WS titles from wild card berths (‘97 and ‘03). Went to the playoffs as wild cards in ‘20 and ‘23 but those seasons were total flukes. Many of us believe that we will go to the playoffs either this season or next. Agustin Ramirez is the Gus Bus, Xavier Edwards is X Man, Eury Pérez is Baby Goat, Javier Sanoja is chiquito. LoanDepot is a great park, but decades of abuse at the hands of upper management has turned locals off so ganes are widely unattended. Many of us have an existing alliance with the Reds as well.
