There is a bit of confusion about swqos in general. The min stake requirement isn’t there for dapps, it’s to cover the minimum non delinquent validator stake. So basically 100% of the validators are above the min. In classic solana fashion, its purpose isn’t to solve your problem, it’s just to get out of the way of you solving your problems. Maybe the best solution is a mempool, maybe it’s locking Tremp or Boden tokens in exchange for guaranteed connections, maybe it’s a simple usdc => connection vending machine. To try any of these ideas without swqos a dev would need to convince ALL validators to install their software and allocate capacity to it. With swqos, devs need any % of the staked validators to do so, and the leader will honor the allocated bandwidth.

rough TL;DR of what's happening: - the networking stack (QUIC) on Solana is implemented poorly and does not handle spam well - if everyone spams, a lot of connections get dropped since a block leader can only handle so many connections at once - bots spam better than humans, so users get the worst end of the stick and get dropped the most - to win, you must spam more than the others - more concretely, nodes/bots that spam more aggressively will have a higher chance of success with close to no penalty (if helius did this at our scale for example, this could bring down the chain as we regularly land over half of all txns, so this is out of the question, tragedy of the commons) - since this happens before the scheduler, it's unclear if 1.18 will actually fix this (probably not) - this also means that increasing your fees will *not* help, so increasing it above a certain median will just make you waste money - networking patches are what's required, and those are rolling out soon!
