Sundance has only reported 51" of snow since opening in early December. This is in contrast to the 463" of snow they received in 2022-23. It's been an extra rough season for them.

We knew it would happen, and here it is. Snowbasin is closing on Sunday. I expect additional announcements of early closures in the coming days. Disappointing news, but I promise you, none of these resorts want to make these announcements.

@nateinthewild I mean, don't get me wrong, it's going to stay way above normal. And we could get close to records again middle of next week. I'm just saying we aren't going to stay at record levels for ALL of the next two weeks. haha

Well, folks, right now we sit back and watch over the next few days and find out how resilient our record-low snowpack is to record-shattering March heat. It's kinda like watching how your tank made of balsa wood holds up against a bazooka.

@nateinthewild Not the record heat. The heat will subside. But general ridging and dry weather looks to be here for at least 10 more days.

Atmospheric river taking its toll on the snowpack. Last 48 hours Alpental has lost 23 inches (87 to 64), Chinook 21" (154 to 133), Paradise 17" (127 to 110), Snoqualmie Pass 16" (65 to 49), Crystal Mt 12" (64 to 52), Stevens Pass & Mt Baker 11" (78 to 67 & 112 to 101). #wawx

Well, the ridiculous mid-March heat has officially arrived in the Western U.S., with quite a few locations in California already reaching/breaking all-time monthly records today. Believe it or not, the heat will further intensify and become even more widespread later this week.

The previous earliest 107°F on record was May 5, 1947. 🌡️Saturday's forecast in Phoenix would set the March and April monthly high temperature record. Obscene heat dome -- unprecedented.

April almost always delivers at least one or two good storms and powder days, but it’s really hard to look at the current forecast and see anything but doom and gloom as record warm, and totally dry, weather bears down on the West. All I can say is, “Yikes!” 😬

The next week is great if you want a taste of summer. Not great if you still want to ski. Brutal March heatwave loading…

Strong cold front moves through late today with high winds, potential for lightning and graupel, and eventually much colder temperatures. Snow accumulations look light with 1-3" for most mountains of northern Utah at best.
