There were performances vs LFC in 2018 and Bayern in 2021 amongst others, which made your jaw drop but his performances in the 5 games of those last 3 Champions League exits to Man City, Real Madrid & Bayern from 2021-2023 definitely influenced me on how high to rank Neymar. Didn’t just lose those games but he was downright awful. He also wasn’t particularly good in the 2020 final. Dribbles that didn’t lead to anything and lacked intensity at specific moments. Modrić running the whole length of the pitch past him for the goal in that 2022 exit particularly took the biscuit. Can’t go along with the commonly held opinion that he is the unanimous 3rd best player of the 21st century because of this.

And most importantly, the overall philosophy of finding cheap deals like Iñigo, Roony, Rashford & Cancelo whilst leaning on the academy, will regenerate their finances long-term and have them back in the conversation for buying the best players in the world again.
