10 years ago in Manali, I saw this banner tied to a gate. It read: “If you want the joy of sweeping in Manali… try throwing garbage in the open once.” No preaching. No threats. Just brutal honesty. Sometimes responsibility is best taught with sarcasm. 🏔️ Should every tourist spot put this up? #CivicSense #ResponsibleTravel

One of the biggest announcements at #PrimeVideoPresents was Mirzapur: The Movie, marking the franchise’s move to the big screen. Produced by Excel Entertainment, the film arrives in theatres on September 4. Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, and Divyenndu return as Guddu Pandit, Kaleen Bhaiya, and Munna Bhaiya, bringing the franchise’s signature power struggles to cinemas across the country. @AMZMGMstudiosIN #ItStartsHere

What does success actually mean? Money? Freedom? Peace? Recognition? Or something else entirely? Curious to know how you define it.

Since the advent of social media, when people could access an aggregate opinion, these movie critics became fossils. Now all they do is use their column space to project their politics, it’s read by 6 other movie critics. And they scratch each others’ back. Imagine someone with one day job, announcing proudly that he won’t do it, coz his politics is hurt. :)

#Dhurandhar2 has recorded the most housefull shows for a Hindi film on a non-holiday. The film is running with an unprecedented 85–90% occupancy since the morning shows. The majority of shows are full house. A HISTORIC Day 1 is on the cards, including paid previews. Official collections will be out tomorrow, stay tuned.

When UPSC results are declared in India, amongst the family, village, colony of those who were selected, a full-blown big bang mass celebration happens without fail. There is colour, there is fireworks, there are horses and the person who got selected is treated with no less pomp than a medieval king returning after a victorious battle. Why does this exam generate such extreme emotions? Why is there so much celebration? Why is treated on par as if the person just invented a method to manifest petrol from water? The answer to this, lies in the Medieval fortress of Murud Janjira. If there was any one fort in the world, which could represent the word Impregnable and Unconquerable in the history of forts, it was Murud Janjira. 165 kms South of Mumbai, built by the Siddis between the years 1567 - 1571, Murud Janjira is situated bang in the middle of the Arabian sea. And For the last 500 years, it has remained the gold standard in coastal military architecture. It is probably the only fort in world history, that has remained unconquered. And given that it was in an area where it was attacked every weekend by some power or the other, that is some achievement. The Portuguese, the Sultanates, the Marathas and the British, all tried to capture it, but failed. And they would have remained unconquered till date, had India not been freed in 1947 and they decided to accede to us. Murud Janjira is the real life live manual on how to build a fort that can never be conquered. It was built directly on rock and rose directly from the sea. So there were no beaches you could land for capturing this. It was also built it in an irregular oval shape, which broke the waves, eliminated blind spots and made it very difficult for the enemies to survey and identify the weaknesses. The stones with which it was built, were interlocked in such a way that it broke all the waves Arabian sea managed to throw at it, which made the tide, one of the first lines of its. At high tide, most of the access points to the fort was submerged, so at best you might beat your fist against the walls of the fort. At low time, some openings were visible. So to make sure, the main gate was so amazingly camouflaged amongst the stone walls of the fort, the it was virtually invisible till you got very very close to it. But you wouldn’t as You would be long dead before it. Because getting close was impossible. The fort had 19 massive cannons, each located in such a way that it had overlapping fields of fire. And the cannons were placed at different heights to different ranges. If you escaped from one gun, the other will blow you to kingdom. And if you thought, given that the fort was in the middle of the sea, and desalination as a tech was still 5 centuries away, you can kill them thru thirst and hunger. Good plan, but unfortunately for you, the fort had 3 freshwater ponds, in the middle of the sea, which gave fresh and potable water throughout the year. And had granaries that could store so much grain and food, that you would die of exhaustion and they would be having a nice party watching you die. The only way you could get in to the fort was with a special pass issued by the fort and if you reached the fort and forgot the pass, they didn’t ask you to go back and fetch it. They would kill you and make you sleep with the fishes. Murud Janjira was 22 acres of pure badassery whose sole purpose was to keep people out and their citizens in. You couldn’t harm them. You couldn’t hurt them. You couldn’t punish them. You couldn’t injure them. While they could do anything to you. Pretty much like UPSC. The person who clears the exam, gets something like pass to get into today’s version of Murud Janjira. It is a land filled with enough food and water, that you never have to go back again. But it is impregnable that nobody can do anything to you. It has enough guns to destroy anyone who decides to take you on. You live in a pristine, salubrious, plentiful land which is cut off from the rest of the society. Your life will happily go on, even if everything around you is burning, because you are safely insulated on your nice, impregnable fortress. You can do anything to society, but there is nothing they can do to you. No wonder, when you get that access pass, you celebrate like there is no tomorrow.

Went to the Hyundai showroom today. It was literally so packed that we couldn't find a place to sit. Test drove the Exter. Nice car. Fancier i10 I think. Venue felt better. One problem with both those cars, too many versions. Makes it really hard to decide.
