I'm going to tell you how I got there and the exact process I run each outreach session, for FREE 👇 Most technical writers keep making the same mistake. They find a project, skim the website, and send some version of: "hey good day, I'm a technical writer. Here are my services, let me know if you need help." Bro that DM is dead on arrival. Founders get hundreds of DM's every week, you start with that, you sound like every other guy and he obviously wouldn't give a... What actually works is making them feel like you've already been paying attention, because you have. How? Before I touch the DM button of any project, I go deep, really deep. → What is this project actually doing? → Do they have documentation? → If no, what's the cost of that gap to their users? → If yes, is it up-to-date? Is it clear? Would a dev actually trust it? Bad docs = open door. Outdated docs = open door. Missing docs = open door. I'm not pitching writing. I'm pitching the specific problem their documentation is creating right now. That's why my conversation this week with that co-founder was possible. He wasn't ready to hire, but he asked for my proof of work before I could even suggest it. That means something landed. That means he read the DM, felt the problem, and wanted to know if I was the person to solve it. He's not a closed deal neither is he a rejection. That's a warm lead sitting in my pipeline. Cold outreach isn't about closing every DM. It's about building a funnel where 1 in 10 clients becomes a conversation... 1 in 5 conversations becomes a deal, and the ones who said "not yet" remember your name when the time comes. That's the whole game. You build the funnel, you stay consistent, and you let the timing do the rest.
