The fastest way to lose control of a project is to start making exceptions in real time. I pay close attention to scope from the beginning, but the real discipline is holding the line when extra asks start getting folded in like they were always part of the plan. That has nothing to do with being rigid, and everything to do with protecting the quality of the work. I do my best work when expectations stay clear, the process stays intact, and every added ask is treated like an actual decision, not an automatic yes.
